Wow, I was just at Lloyd Center today... I ought to check ST more often. Been a lil busy lately and it doesn't look like its going to stop... 7.gif Winter Term starts Monday at PSU (for some reason, they're starting early this year). Time to learn how to make real buildings!

Jt, I see the Broadway Garage I made is being put to good use. :) The mall looks very realistic! 11x30 for a lot sounds quite unnerving, but then Lloyd District lots are a lot bigger than downtown ones... And the Lloyd Center spans several of them! There's also an office tower attached to it, plus a sort-of stand-alone open-air section with a department store north of it. I know the little open-air section's part of the Lloyd cause it looks exactly like the rest of the mall did before it was remodeled. Oh how weird that was when it was all this open-air mall with that horrible 1960's yellow paint and brickwork. Still it was better than Washington Square's depressing old grey granite and fake wood look! Rain sure put a damper on ice skating, but it was a neat mall then nonetheless.

Anyways, I'm sorry to say that you probably won't see any BAT stuff from me for a while. The computer meltdown I had coupled with going into the architecture program has set me back too far for now. There won't be too much time at all with my class load, plus I am sorta burnt-out for now. Once I'm refreshed and have time, I'll whip something up, plus I can still advise.

And of course, I'll still look in here and see what's up.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 39.gif39.gif39.gif39.gif

thanks sparky, yea, the old lloyd center is pretty sad lol. but i finished putting together the big one:

    lloydcenter04441xg.jpg

for more pics click on my Portland CJ link in my sig.

i made it almost entirely out of buildings by simgoober, thanks simgoober!

sparky, yes, your parking garage for broadway has worked great for lloyd center! i made it as two models, one for the ends and one for the center sections. i did this so i could get two sizes of garages, one at both ends/sides of the mall.

Lookin good! Are those MAX tracks I see on Holliday Street? *drool*

I'll take a look at the CJ and add some comments there. There's a few things that can spice up the area surrounding it...

Would it be possible for you to supply the addresses of the Portland buildings you have uploaded so we know where to place them in a Portland region? Mapquest is surprisingly unhelpful in locating them.
Many thanks for your outstanding work.

    mxy,

personally i found it helpful to use Keyhole from Google (www.keyhole.com)
you can zoom into downtown portland and pretty much make out all the bldgs visually. i use to mapquest it but that was a pain.

www.portlandmaps.com is also another option, but Keyhole would be my first recommendation because you do not need to input addys to Keyhole.

thanks portlandexpos! good luck to you in school too, lucky you get to go to PSU in Portland! :) i can send you the coliseum if you want, i wouln't post it on the stex since it is very...um... what's the word, unfinished? lol it has no night lights, and not much detail, but it does the job for what i want it do to for now :)

as for lloyd, since more than one person seems to want it, i'll ask SimGoober if he's willing to let me post a lot with his buildings as props on it.

i'm also glad to hear that the made in oregon lot is finally working! yay! hehe

keyhole looks like a cool program! but it's $30 :P, i use Terraserver by Microsoft, it lets me zoom in on portland up close! it does not however have street names on the map like keyhole does.

Click Here to see Portland from space

mxy, to answer your question, i wouldn't look up all the address for all the portland buildings i've made, but you can! hehe. go to www.emporis.com, go to portland oregon, and there you should find a list of all the portland buildings. you can then view the buildings and it shoud display their adress. if you're having trouble finding a specific building, let me know, and i'd be happy to seach it for you.

mxy, are you making a recreation of portland yourself?

mxy: I know downtown like the back of my hand! PM me if you need an addy, or just plainspeak on where to put stuff. If you know your streets well, you'll be able to get a lot done. I'll be downtown quite a bit now and can even go there and check it in person!

Portlandexpos: Wow, another PSU person here. What's your major? We oughta have a ST PSU meetup at lunch or something... I believe there is quite a few of us on campus.

Also I talked to a friend of mine in Eugene on New Years. She used to work for UO and she said school started yesterday everywhere else in Oregon. What gives? Don't they know New Years is a time many students need a whole week to recover from? (I'm glad I don't have that problem any more). 9.gif

I may be at Shattuck Hall most of this time, since that's where my design studio class is. It's a VERY intense and demanding class. I'm all ready thinking about what sort of photos to put up in my corner of the room. Next step is getting a stereo and a good CD collection of classical music in!

JT: You're lucky you have the time to do BAT still! I now have nearly 0 time to do anything, and it's going to get worse. But fun!

The good news is that I have a wireless connection for my laptop and I'll be able to check here if I get bored or need a break. After washing all that *&$# charcoal off my hands that is... The transformation to a CRAAAAAZY architecture junky is escalating.. MUAHAHAHA!!!

(Note to self: wear all black that day if you're going to be drawing with charcoal)

Have a good Winter Term! Good luck 39.gif39.gif39.gif

Does anyone have a downloadable regional map of Portland such that I could build downtown Portland to scale? I think the only map I have covers too broad an area to build to scale.
    Thanks to all.

JT: cool thatd be awesome to see Lloyd on STEX, hopefully u get the approval for that! I'll private mesg you about coliseum.

Sparky: Dude, a PSU ST lunch is an awesome idea! I'm definately down to do that. As for my major im in the Community Development program emphasizing on Housing and Economic Devlopment. I actually have a Economic Dev. class tomorrow night at Shattuck.

yea, not sure how much time i'll have to bat for now, since i'm working almost full time and going to school part time-with alot of homework!

*Good news everybody! Simgoober has been kind enough to allow me to post the mall (with many of his buildings and props) on the stex!

i have been able to gather all of the dependencies, do i'll post them here now incase you want to get a head start on downloading them before i post the actual Lloyd Center lot.

    Nordstrom

    RCC fountain

    W2W BAT Props Vol01

*Arcade included in Lloyd Center DAT*

    Wegmans Grocery Store

    Tops Grocery Store

    Tesco Grocery Store

    Costco Retail

    Kohls Department Store

    BSC SimGoober FloraPack Vol 3

yes, that is TEN NINE things you'll need for the mall! sorry it's so much, but it's the variety of custom lots that makes this mall look so real :)

mxy, there are two portland regions available on the stex, search for Portland and you should find them pretty easily. the two are

Portland Oregon Metro Area by skippydam73 (the one i'm using)

    Portland Oregon by the_dalai_llama

it would be interesting to see you use the one made by the dalai llama, since i don't know what this one looks like. look luck on your portland recreation! and don't forget to check out mine :)

Portland Expos: Cool, see ya round Shattuck! I'll be there a lot. Going in to the studio today to play catch up and get organized. If you hear a lot of classical music (if I can get a way to play it), that's where I am. heh.

Lemme know when a good time is to do lunch!

Jt: That sure is lot of stuff for the Lloyd! But it works great! Looks a lot like the real thing. With the homework stuff, just take it easy with BAT and take a well-deserved break. I spent several hours yesterday making 10 chitboard models. This is basic stuff, so I definetly will have no time for anything really once we start the bigger projects.

ok guys, i have some good news and i have some bad news...

bad news first: i made a huge moding mitake and i am no long oble to open Lloyd Center (not even in ilive) 8.gif ... this is a big reason why i don't like moding! lol

***i was tring to change the number of jobs and also change it from CS$$$ to CS$$
if anyone knows how to do this, plese tell me!! :)***

good news: i've almost completely finished putting lloyd back together from scratch, and by going off pics i took of it when it was still alive lol. i actually think i got it looking better this time.

sooo that's why there'll be a slight delay on Lloyd's release, sorry guys!

portlandexpos and sparky, have fun doin lunch! or dinner by the look of thoes hours :P. toobad, i live in seattle and dont go to PSU either hehe

Thanks ummaro! Glad to see you like everything here. I guess you can say we're on a bit of hiatus right now, as college life is quite gruelling for both JtPortland and I. Perhaps in about 3 months, we'll be back at it at our previous zeal, but it's waaaay too busy for me at least to continue at this time.

One cool thing: experience in 3d programs gives you a good advantage starting out in PSU's architecture program. I'm using them to do light/shading studies on some of my projects. It's much faster than darkening the room and shining a flashlight down while drawing! If I hadn't been so obsessed with BATing Portland, I'd never have picked up 3d stuff.

Now, if only they'd get us designing skyscrapers instead of abstract stuff... heh

Wow. JT, you are the man. I am a complete newbie to the game, but I am absolutly blown away with what you have done. I am from the coast area near Portland and practically grew up there. The things you have been able to recreate are amazing. The made in Oregon sign alone is wild. I currently live in Eugene, and I am hoping to that maybe I could do a similar recreation. Go Ducks. Anyway, I am still figuring out this whole BAT thing, so any tips would be very helpful . Thanks again and keep up the good work. Inspiring.

Yup, PSU as in Portland State... heh. Other than the Engineering school, the Simon Benson House, Shattuck and Lincoln Halls, the library, and the Urban Studies Center, there isn't really anything worthy of BATing at Portland State.

recreating Penn State would be a great way to build a city though, atleast Old Main and like the HUB or something, the architectual engineering and the new ITS building would be cool too.

Well, a comeback me may be in the work- you'll know it whewn you see it. I had to drop a class, but I still have a ton of work in those. Maybe on spring break I'll whip something up... Sorry for having to take a long break again from all this stuff.

Recently I got my hands on a copy of the Sims 2, so naturally I'm stuck in that til I get tired of it... I'm almost to a point where I can live without playing it every free moment I have.

By the way, there is some good news to report. Thanks to Windows 2000 keeping seperate account files whenever you reinstall Windows, I found all the stuff I thought was deleted! It was really weird, since I tend not to ever have a reason to go into the documents and settings folder, but one day I was looking thru there. Low and behold, my old folder was there!!!

So perhaps one day, I'll finally finish Waddle's and Union Station. Or someone willing can finish it for me. Whichever happens first. 3.gif

Anyways, time to get back to my art class work.
