Multi-Transit-Intersection

While adding a couple of Maxis 6 lane O/H Highways to one of my busiest cities, I ran into a big problem.  How to add them and still make everything else work.  If I knew a bit more about NAM, I might have been able to make it a bit neater, but at least I figured it out.

Here's what I had to overcome:

a)  2 - avenue crossings

b)  2 - 6 lane O/H highways

c)  2 - monorail crossings

d) 3 - RR lines, plus one of my U-Turns

e)  Misc. roads to contend with

.

I know the picture shows quite a messy multi-intersection, but at least it works.

Hmm. I can't really comment much but looking at this I would like to see your transportation view so we can verify the efficiency of the system or at least we have discrete data to work on. Normally I create different transit lines connecting different parts of the cities (let's say one runs vertically and the other one runs horizontally but in most cases, my systems runs in a complex system too but I try to make sure that every suburb and district is well served). There is really no problem with how messy it looks as long as its effective. 

 

Just one question, do you have the NAM?

Yup - I'm NAM capable, but I'm still not too good using it yet.  BTW - All of this area was already there. I just started adding the O/H highway when I discovered that I was in for a slight mess.  But, YES, it works fine.

You can also play around with terrain leveling to try and put some of those transport modes underground. This will open up space for you to smooth out those 90 degree intersections.

 

You can also split those avenues into dual direction one-way streets as well. Fiddling around with that can "straighten out" that off-set avenue running through the middle of the intersection.
