I'm Trying to Copy one city from one place in a Region to another without moving the city.

It keeps moving it!

How do I duplicate the city??? I've done it before, but I forgot exactly how.

I would duplicate the region and copy the city from one region to the other. At least that's what I did once.

You have to do it in the file system.

Using windows explorer (if you are on windoze) locate the file you want to copy then copy it (CTRL+c) to the transfer directory (...\SimCity 4\Regions\Downloads).

Then open the game, position yourself on the city you plan to replace then click to open it except use the import city icon.  When the file dialogue opens, navigate to the transfer directory when the game will move it in for you.  You can only move in cities of equal size.

I've found SC4 does something quite clever regarding saved cities:

When copying a city file (into any region), the game recognises it's not used and automatically moves it to "Downloads". You don't need to move them there directly.

Like Nonny mentioned, a key thing to remember is importing saved cities is a transfer operation, not a copy. Importing will link that city to the specified region.

Initially it'll have the same name as the original copy. But if you wish, the city can be renamed using: whererufrom <city name>

This is a default command, and doesn't require the Extra Cheats DLL to function.

Yup.  Into each complacency a little windows explorer must fall.  Some people think of the PC as a home appliance, but there is a lot more under the hood than that.

I remember DOS systems, and have worked with them. I thought copying the file was enough. Forgot to import.
