Error in Region View

Hello folks!

Recently my game crashed to desktop when saving a city tile. While I was lucky that the city file is not corrupt, the crashed caused a constant glitch in the region view and city loading screen - see below.

Did anyone of you face a similar problem? Is there a way to fix this glitch? Probably re-render the region view completely?

Any help is appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance,

Seb

You need to make a link public in dropbox before you're able to share it with other people.

And regarding your issue in SC4: You can try to save the city again in SC4, this should refresh the view of the tile in the region view. But better make an backup before you attempt this.

Sorry for the missing images, the links should be fixed now.

Saving the city tile did not fix the problem, unfortunately. Any other advice?

Well that keeps me hoping at least ;-)

Regarding the region: I mixed a few of Ardens Tree Controllers to get different seasons at the same time. Guess, that's what you noticed.

As long as it's only an issue with the snapshot, it should be possible to reset it.
One way is by doing an internal save whilst in the city. This can be done by pressing CTRL+S.

If this doesn't help, can remove the snapshot, which will be captured again on the next save.

    Steps:

    1.  First make a full backup of your saved region (located in "Documents\SimCity 4\Regions") to another location.

    2.  Then select the problematic city, open it using Reader and click "Fill the list". The contents of the saved file will open in categories, for example.

    3.  Double-click the "entry" column to order the categories. You should see a few listed PNG files at the top.

    4.  Select and delete these PNG files (right click > Remove file).

    5.  Save changes and exit Reader.

Make sure the edited file is back in your individual region's folder, and load the game. You will notice the city's snapshot will have been removed, meaning it'll appear as a blank tile. Load the city and preform another internal save. This will then create the new snapshots.

And under no circumstances ever take focus away from the game while it is saving.  This is one of those strange things that can result.  ALT+TAB is not your friend in this case.

@Cyclone: Thanks for this advice. While I did as you mentioned, deleted the pngs, and got an "empty" tile, the error returned after saving the city. :-(

    Any more advice?!

One thing I can suggest is to do the same with all adjacent city tiles. When saving, any neighbouring cities are also saved. Maybe the snapshot of these cities has also become messed up when the CTD occurred. Just a thought...

You could try doing this with all the cities (so all have the PNGs removed). Then attempt to re-save each and update the snapshots.

I'm having the same issue with my SimCity regions. At first I thought it only occurred on sea tiles (where there is no land at all) and I noticed that by adding small islands it went away. But now I also have it with land regions and I have no idea how to remove them. I thought at first it was an issue with the lack of relief, like with those sea tiles, but the land tiles this occur on have plenty of relief and adding more doesn't help either.

    Weird.

Remember that the region view is a mosaic of snapshots taken when a save is done.  To update them, you need to take each snapshot again.

Yeah but going back to the specific region and saving and then going back to region view doesn't help.

Just opening doesn't do it.  Open a data view and then do the save CTRL+s, then exit without saving.

It did for me, but I haven't done that in several generations of the NAM.  Maybe you should save your user stuff and do a reinstall of both the game and the NAM, then see how you stand.

I had the same problem as op:

but after reverting to an older videocard driver version, the problem was gone:

I have an old NVidia GeForce 9600 GT, and as you can see, I'm using a lot plugins, including the newest NAM; however uninstalling those and reinstalling the game didn't worked. Originally I was using the NVidia driver version 337.88 and after downgrading the 310.90 version, which worked great. (btw, I'm using Steam version now, I don't know if it's relevant)

This is starting to sound like the technology has finally gone beyond supporting a legacy program written over 10 years ago.  This is not too surprising, only sad.

I don't know what kind of arm twisting would be needed to get EA/maxis studio to invest in a recompile of the program, even without any fixes although I think they could at least provide version 641.  Their cash cow is about to dry up.

He actually has the same video card (9600GT) as we have in our main computer downstairs and it's five years old. I don't think that card was even new at that time, and it wasn't even top-of-the-line, either. So basically, it's just that the card manufacturers are doing stuff to their drivers that old games can't handle anymore.

I have this region glitch problem also...

I have no idea how it started, it just started, randomly. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it does. I wish it would go away, I didn't change anything!

You could try doing this with all the cities (so all have the PNGs removed). Then attempt to re-save each and update the snapshots.

I have this region glitch, but i never got a CTD...it just happens, and keeps happening.
