Need advice about Orion/Akar, RCIPlop and BoC

Hi, I've been reading through the various mod threads, but I'll admit it gets a little confusing, so thought I would post my question here.

I have been using Orion, RCIPlop and BoC, but now that we have the most excellent Akar (which I love), I have a bit of a problem. Since BoC isn't compatible with Akar, how are you guys working around it?  PCIPlop is great but obviously, it's only RCI buildings.  What do we do with all the other things - utilities etc. I want to put a wind farm up on a hill outside the 2K border but that doesn't seem possible without BoC. Am I missing something obvious?

So - would we be able to get the plopping functionality of BoC into RCIPlop?  Sounds like a big job I'm sure.  Anyway... just wanted to see how you guys are doing it and if there is something fundamental that I missed.  Thanks.

You should be able to plop things such as utilities just fine outside the regular border without BoC. I can, anyways :).

@smalljude:

You can plop a Wind Farm outside the 2k city block, within Orion's reach. If you want to plop a Wind Farm on a hill that is beyond Orion's reach, then it can only be done using BOC.

At the moment, it is that Orion is bigger than the 2k city block, but does not cover the entire region. BOC does.

    Hmm curious. I've just tested again on a brand new region and I can only plop the RCIPlop buildings outside the region (they're the only things that create a plop point).

    Yeah that was the behaviour I used to get, but it seems to have changed for me. I just tested again and I can draw roads on all four sides with regional streets (shouldn't that only work on the two Orion sides??) but only plop RCIPlop buildings onto two of those sides (nothing else creates a plop point). I guess I'll have to start deleting mods and seeing if there are any conflicts.

    OP its confusing because its new and only 48 hours old

    But the idea and the reasons are to unify and bring mods and the feeling of the mods together into a user friendly UI / UX and game experience ... to make mods feel intuitive and more natural

    we are working on many other things and to my surprise the new cooperation and collaboration and inspiration are bring out mods faster and increasing the quality of the mods as a result

    we are working on new images and icons and tutorials for all mods and even better installation methods for everyone to use.. just takes time

    so ask what ever question you need anyone

    Thanks so much xoxide.  I've reinstalled SimCity and will start adding mods one by one. The last versions of Orion and Akar I used were 1.0.5 & 1.0.7 so it's all changed since then. Hopefully I can return to the expected behaviour and will be able to plop as normal (that sounds wrong HA!).

    All your collaborations are amazing! I can really see how the momentum is building and people are working together. It's very exciting. I only wish modding was available on Mac - will that ever be a possibility?

    edit: Just noticed in the RCIPlop mod thread that a couple of other people are getting this problem too - no snap points.

    all the mods will work on the mac to be honest every one of them.  Report any issues and continue to publish any findings you have.

    and we will continue to work towards getting as much out of what we have presented to as many people as we can.

    Time and input is still needed. This is the largest community undertaking we have done so far.  We are greateful and also surprised by many aspects.

    99% should work if placed in the correct locations on the mac however performance is limited by the equipment and os not our mod.

    behavior is just different

    Snap points will work only in the 2k and only on 2 sides outside the boundary box as well. but should function unless there is something people are doing that is causing this issue but we need more information to diagnose or undestand

    For your information, Although BOC was not included in Akar, You can still use BOC using the onscreen icons.

    Our intentions is to work with the community to create a unified Interface with everyones developments in Mind.  We're not here to compete however offer options.  BoC's author can adapt and adopt the communities edition however its his choice not ours.  With respect to him he has refused at this point in time but its his decision not ours and we respect that.

    @Yayie:

    Have you thought it over to implement keyboard shortcuts to Akar's icons, like the default ones?

    @BlueKeiko

    So BOC is compatible with Orion and Akar? I thought they conflicted and were unusable together.
    It would be great if they were fully compatible. As someone said before, i wanted to be able to plop things where Orion doesn't alow, which would be possible with BOC...

    @Drengs:

    It's more that they CAN be used together. BOC, Orion, and Akar. I use them all three now.

    What Akar does, is deleting the 2 icons of the BOC. But you can still use BOC if you press, 'EXPOSE DEBUG UI' on the Options screen. Then Boc's onscreen icons appear, with which you can access BOC's items.

    But it's very problematic. While I have barely a 2k city block full, whenever I try to plop a school, or another ploppable, the game crashes. The modders did say that Orion and BOC are 2 conflicting programs. I can plop RCI without for SimCity to crash. And sometimes still a ploppable.

    Ah, now i understand.
    Indeed, sounds too complicated, specially for someone not used to BOC. I never used it before.
    Hopefully they will fix this issue as well, cause BOC and Orion are a perfect match if used together.

    Thanks xoxide - I've only found a problem with a couple of mods on the Mac (I think the ones that haven't worked for me are > tree anywhere, park bench, regional subway and more landmarks (230 instead of 3)).  I was adding them one by one and testing (after a fresh game install).

    So - I tinkered around and finally realised that I am now getting the intended behaviour with Orion/Akar, but only on newly claimed plots, not on existing cities. Sorry - I should have tested that out before ever posting here. Anyway... at least that seems fine now. I get plop points on the 2 sides as expected.  I guess I'm too quick to come and ask here rather than test properly... my apologies (and thanks for your attention).

    OK... just read your post further down. It does sound a little dodgy at times, but I'll try reinstalling BoC and see how I go. Thanks :)

    Thanks Yayie - yeah I don't want to cause any ill feeling. I hope BoC's author knows how much people enjoyed his mods.

    Don't be like that Yayie. At this point in time no one has contacted me about adding BOC stuff to your mod. I did message you on dizzy's stream the other day about how you could make Akar compatible with both but you must have left the stream chat when I explained it.

    In anycase the reason I have not pushed any updates is because you can still use BOC. Press ESCAPE -> Enable Debug Menu -> BOC menus will appear on the right side of your screen.

    Thanks Procs... I'm going to install BoC and see how it goes now.

    I did notice a problem with your fantastic 'tree anywhere' mod - it seems to be offsetting by a large amount now (I'm using Orion/Akar on a Mac - before those mods it worked perfectly I think). Have you noticed anything like that before?  If it's just me and everyone else is working fine then just ignore me :)

    Nah its a problem with Orion and it causing offset issues with certain things. I am pretty sure I know how to fix certain things like the oil etc being offset but its a huge amount of work to fix.
