How to increase Residential demand?

This might be a stupid question but I'll do it anyway.

How I increase Residential demand in region? I have a few cities which are quite large. The largest is going up to 700,000. However, there is no residential demand anymore. It's plummeted and won't go up. Do I only need to start new cities? It seems like there is no demand for agriculture which, I would assume, increases the population in the region as a whole... Or?

How do the mechanics work? I'd like to increase the size of my larger cities just for experimental reasons, and then make bigger suburbs and country side farther away from the main population centers.

Residential demand is created by jobs.  With a large city, add more commercial spaces, and industrial if your city will tolerate them.

You may have hit a residential demand cap. There are several things you can try to increase residential demand:

1) Build parks and other recreational facilities.  Sims need their recreation

2) Build any rewards that you have obtained.

3) Make sure there are enough neighbor connections.  Also, use a variety of different networks to connect to neighbors (roads, highways, rail, etc...)

4) Satisfy any commercial and/or industrial demand to create jobs.

5) Build a mass transit system (start with busses) so Sims can get to their jobs easier.

Hmm... I'll have to check into all of those. With the job issue, there is hardly any demand for industrial, only HT. Commercial Office jobs are also in a decline. CS$ and CS$$ are pretty high though.

CS demand is not affected by demand caps, so those blue bars tend to stay high. It means you can always add a shopping centre or two and increase the Res. population. As Prophet42 said, you've probably hit the limit on R. Try plopping one big reward, such as a ball park or the uni, and you might see an instant change.

I agree with Prophet42. Are you using any other mods aside from the usual lot and bat plugins and NAM?

By creating more shops and industrial zones. I think industrial zones require it more than commercial ones.
