I have only used windows and that what I know and love. But I know other people like apple mac os so I would like to know why. (Not "no virus" or "It can't be hacked' I bet I could if I wanted to but I don't)

Mac OS but really any other mainstream alternative to Windows. I simply think it works better. I couldn't wait to be done with Windows PCs after graduating from college. I view Microsoft as somewhat of the Walmart of software and their best days are behind them. Not a favorable opinion.

I've always found it strangely satisfying how my Macs have run Windows better than any Windows-based PC I've used ever did. Although now I'm finally fully weaned of it and have no intention of ever going back, and seeing how the market appears to be headed I don't think I'd ever have to.

FWIW I feel I have to disclaim that I'm not an Apple fanboy. All I've ever owned from them are PCs. No iPods or iPhones...I prefer Android. Also I've always disliked the whole Mac vs. PC argument. They're both PCs.

Depends what you want.  I think Apple computers are overpriced; the competition between Windows PC manufacturers keeps prices down a little more.  These days there's not much functional difference between the OS's.  They both get the job done fairly equally, just with different interfaces.  OS X seems a little sleeker, more space-age to me, but Microsoft is trying to shake things up too (if you're into tiles.  Not many people appear to be into tiles though.)

Ironically for sargeantcm, I'd say the big reason to go Mac would be better integration with your iPhone and other products.  Windows still has the upper hand in the software market.  If you're looking for some obscure program, off the beaten path, you may be out of luck with a Mac (SC4 of course!  Aspyr fell short).

If you turn on your computer and just want it to work when you move the mouse and type the keys, Macs do a great job.  If you want more internal control, Microsoft always keeps customization higher in their priorities.  The same is true for hardware; you're better off getting a non-Apple computer and buying OS X separately if you want much hope of ever upgrading it.

Finally, Apple wins in customer support.  Nothing more frustrating than the combination of Windows Troubleshooter taking 30 minutes to tell you it cannot detect the problem, with little help from the man from Bangladesh in live chat.  (Of course the key here is keeping up with maintenance.  If you do this, both operating systems should run at warp speed on a powerful computer)

I am also the owner of a Mac. A very good thing about Macs is the hardware. They are well-built, the keyboard is very good (and the backlit keys are really handy). The touch pad is also the best I've ever used, and the gestures make working with the computer a lot easier. The screen of Mac laptops is also better than most Windows pc's (higher resolution, better colours,...). I like the OS too, it seems to me that it's smoother than Windows. I use Windows 7 on my Mac too, and Mac OS definitely wins the contest. It's easier, it works more smoothly, it looks better,...

On the other hand, they are very expensive (but you can re-sell them for a decent price, my Mac cost 1800 euro, and after 3 years it still is worth 800 euro!). The OS-thing is also nothing more than personal preference. Some people prefer Windows (like I prefer Windows Phone over iOS, and others don't). That's something you have to decide for yourself. Windows has become a better OS the last few years, and there are Windows pc's that are very good too (ultrabooks).

Ok so macs have good hardware, Those are all made by apple, For pc it just a matter of what brand of pc did you get or laptop or desktop.

I for one don't think microsoft days are behind them I think microsoft will have the upper hand (again) and well yes there are all "PCs" but mac os has a lot of differences... but like I said (I hope I said in the title post) all I have ever owned was a pc so I don't know the hardware specs but I do know there a little differences.

I say that because their market share in the OS market (where they made their money and influence) is from here on out only going to steadily be chipped away at.  There's too much competition and it's either free/cheaper and/or arguably better.  Not to mention they've been running quite the boom-bust cycle with that.  Outside the OS market, they've been consistently late to the game...aside from xbox and a few other hits...Zune anybody?

As for Macs being more expensive; up front I will provide no disagreement.  I think as time goes on; however, things even out in terms of lifecycle cost.  Obviously any PC is outdated the second it leaves a retail shelf, but for Macs it doesn't seem to happen as quickly.

As for control of minutiae; there's enough of it for me with OS X.  If you really want it, it's there.  I'll grant you some things they do are really annoying though - the often non-standard hardware chargers/peripherals/adapters (not so much an issue anymore) and the pervasive, almost nannyish "we know what's best for you" attitude Apple seems to have.  Much of that is the reason I didn't go iPhone...the level of control Apple seems to exert on the experience seems far worse with that product.  Nowadays synching between devices from different manufacturers doesn't seem to be quite the issue it used to be either.

I've never used a MAC.  Until Vista didn't fit on my machine, I suffered through the slings and arrows of Microsoft Windows.  I really liked XP and Windows 2000.  With the arrival of Vista I took up arms against a sea of troubles and eventually arrived at Ubuntu (Linux).

Turns out that with the wine and mono layers for Linux you can run almost any Windows program, and overall the performance I get with Ubuntu is better and less fraught with exiguous errors than Windows.  I've never had a shut-down crash with Linux in all the years I've used it.  Blue Screens of Death just don't happen.  I have had some kernel panics but mostly during a boot operating when things are more than a little delicate.  I don't boot very often, usually only when I get a new kernel.

So you see, my friends, that there is life after Windows.

To be honest, I just want to use Mac because of Keynote. Oh well, Linux is a good OS too but not all programs are designed to run in Linux and that is one major advantage of Windows. I just hope that it is also not the ONLY advantage of Windows.

Generally speaking, Linux provides alternatives to Windows applications.  For example, a fully pimped out GIMP easily replaces Photosuite and it is free.  The GIMP Tool Kit (GTK) is the basis of a great deal of the 2D screen stuff in Linux.  It is the basis of my current desktop for example.  It is quite portable to both Windows and MAC.

If a PC does what you want it to do, then who cares about the vintage of the hardware?  Too many people are caught up with being on the bleeding edge.  I buy function not fancy iron.
