    Vehicle Prop Pack anyone?

These trucks here come in two 'sizes', because i've noticed with vehicles people size them very differently, so I've made one sized towards the Maxis/PEG sized vehicles and one towards more larger ones like the Euro Truck Prop Pack, JES Trucks, and SimGoober's Trucks etc.

    Hi Nirwanda,

I think these may required a bit more detailing, they look very much like textured boxes atm.

I was looking a images of trucks to get an appreciation of their shape, flat-face trucks seem to be very rare, the cabin is nearly always set back from the hood, to varying degrees, and the one flat face truck I did find, still had design contours and not razor edged as these.

Not sure how Gmax copes with reflective or transparent surfaces, but the windows still need to look more like glass somehow. The wheels look a little flat but you may be able to get away with it at this scale. But I think at minimum you need to relax the white a bit, maybe add just a touch of pink and grey, they are blindingly white atm and doesn't look realistic.

Hope you found this helpful, keep up the good work :)

Here in Europe, cab-over-engine (COE) trucks (or lorries, I should say :P ) are the norm, and trucks with a pronounced hood are an absolute exception. This is because competition is fierce, space is limited, and there is a length restriction in place. This makes COE trucks more efficient and economically viable in such a scenario. In the USA and Australia, things are quite different.

However, I agree that the models look to much like textured cuboids so far. The white should be toned down, too. A good impression of white that will blend into the game is terribly hard to get right, especially with gmax.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback!

Reddon, here in Aus we do have cab over, most modern trucks are cab over these days, take a look at what Kenworth, Scania, Volvo and Merc. are all offering, and if you take a ride up the Hume you'll see some :P

As for the low-poly models yeah, thats something to work on, ive been working out how to best fit vents onto the cabs and build a design like the new scania 8x8's that are out. as for the white, its more blindening than a computer programmer's bare chest at the beach so i'll have to fix that up too.

LOL! Well, everything I know about trucks wouldn't fill the back of a postage stamp... I was just going off a quick search of "trucks' in Google images. Having just looked up 'COE lorry' I can see more of this shape of vehicle :)

I think even if you just divided your cubes into 2-3 height sections and scaled the top vertices in just a fraction that would give it  a little bit more shape. I think Gmax has the bevel tool? Maybe just bevel the top and sides a tiny bit to take off some of the sharp edges. Sorry I don't know Gmax very well so its hard to offer much assistance.

Hi everyone, sorry all has been quiet here (not that many people would miss this thread lol) but I had been having computer problems and I am now proud to say I have a windows and am working on my vehicles in 3Ds! Now im still figuring out windows tricks (like how to take selective screencaps) but heres a teaser image of the first modellings of the Cab:

Ive made it more than just a textured box by adding rounded corners on the front and pitching the windshield back a lot more than in the Gmax model.

Keep tuned (or not) for some more updates soon.

Good to hear your PC is up and running again! The new truck model is shaping up nicely, too. It's really a lot better than the first attempt. :)
