Does anyone find it a problem to load a sufficiently large city? It seems like it's crashing all the time and it's not the plugins' fault.

Also, it looks like the game is internet-dependent? When I played it with wi-fi turned off, the game skips the EA and Aspyr logo, and loads a blank region instead. It will also "forget" all the previous settings for graphics.

I attempted it, and with everything datpacked was able to get the game to start normally and open my region, but it will now crash when opening cities.

Edit: I guess I should note that I did not datpack the NAM, or any of my mods, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Remove the "NetworkAddonMod_Bridges_Plugin_Controller.dat" and try again.  There are also issues with custom EL and Monorail items, and HSR.

I'm not entirely sure what I removed to make it work, but the game is now chugging along once again, but now it's even managing 2.7gb, more than I'd had in it before.

I'd already taken out the incompatible NAM files, and all I have otherwise are a few Monorail BAT's.

@MayorTim

I contacted the aspyr support and asked them what the problem could be.

They told me they look into it and hopefully find an answer/solution for it.

Should we open up an new tread for those issues ?

Perhaps so. Could anyone test the ACB airport packs to see if they work? I've been getting a crash to desktop every time I add them to my plugins, wondering why.

This is fantastic news. I'm assuming of course that the code for the application has been updated.

If this is in fact the case..... Happy Days AGAIN!!!

:-)

Can anyone verify that the code has been optimized and SC4 now kicks ass?

If I work I have installed the application on App Store

I can also verify that it works although you'll have to use File Juicer to get a lot of the custom content. Didn't really see many African-inspired cities so I chose that as the theme for my first.

The one thing that is really hampering playability for me though is the bottom row of buttons/icons aren't operable.  For example, I can't pull up the options menu and the pause/play/fast forward buttons don't respond.  I've also had a little trouble with bulldozing.  It doesn't seem like I can bulldoze on every tile.

Since the Options menu doesn't work, I have to exit using CTRL+Q, which brings you back to the desktop.  So I'm not able to move freely between cities.

At first I thought maybe the Dock was somehow interfering with that row of buttons, since they are essentially on top of where the Dock lies.  But I tried moving the Dock to the left side and that didn't help.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yes I am experiencing something similar.

I ran the game at home with an external monitor connected on the highest resolution possible.  Then I went on the road and when I try to run it on the built in monitor on a Macbook Pro, some functions at the bottom of the city screen do not work (including options).  Also the options button in the top right hand corner of the region screen does not work - so I cannot change the in game resolution there.

I logged a call with Aspyr support about the issue.  They seemed to think that if I ran the game in a window instead of full screen I might be able to change the resolution.  I tried that but it would not run in a window, so I have followed up with Aspyr support.

Edit: fn + F9 while in a city (not region view) brings up the graphics options so I was able to change the resolution there and then re-start the game and now it all works fine.

The new Aspyr port has officially been released on Steam, just so everyone knows.

Is the color mapping of the legends for roads, bridges, etc. all correct in the new release version?  Recall that they made some mistakes in previous Mac versions about Intel vs. PowerPC color mapping in the legends for transportation grid views....

I experienced color issues in the transportation view with the old version.  I can only speak for my own rig (late 2013 iMac 27' OS 10.8 ) but for me they look as they should in the new release.

Hey guys, don't know if this question has already been answered but I can't find the info anywhere. I just purchased the newly released Steam version of SC4 deluxe for mac and want to get straight into the modding stuff. Where exactly do I save the files for them to be usable in the game?

Hi,

i'm really sorry to be asking such a basic question but i'd really appreciate some help. I bought the Aspyr version from Mac Game Store. I tried the listed method here, but I can't find a "GameData" folder. Am I doing it correctly - if not how do i fix this problem to find my plugin folder?

Is there an equivalent to a "program files" plugin directory?  Will DAMN work with it?  (If not, that's a dealbreaker for me right there; performance gain opportunity cost be, well, DAMN-ed lol.)

Yes, go to the Applications folder, right-click the application's icon in the Finder, and select "Show package contents." This will open the app bundle. Go to Contents > GameData and you should see all the equivalent folders that you'd see in the Windows edition's Program Files SC4D installation.

Technically, you should be able to place your DAT files that require the application directory instead of the user directory using this path. I don't know if they'll work since I just downloaded the game myself.

Initial launch was very smooth with no skips or hiccups. Interestingly, the startup video says "Rush Hour Expansion Pack" instead of "Deluxe Edition." Right now I'm trying to figure out how to get the resolution to match my Retina display since they said in their official description that the game supports native resolutions.

Hi guys,

I can't seem to find a "containers" folder..can someone help me? its really not the same playing simcity without mods. I've just migrated to Mac and can't get the organisation. I bought an Aspyr version through Mac Game Store.

The plugin path for this is not in Documents thanks to sandboxing, it's here:

~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.simcity4.appstore/Data/Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins

Find your SimCity 4 Deluxe app file (should be in ~/Applications/), right-click on it and select "Show Package Contents" from the context menu.  Then open Contents and then GameData.

To make the library folder visible, when in Finder hold down the "Option" key while opening the "Go" menu.  "Library" will then appear (it's the only one without a shortcut keystroke).  It used to be visible without the option key pre-Lion I believe.

Finally got around to buying and installing the game today from the Mac App Store.

I straight up copied over my files directly from my SC4 folders on my Windows 7 Bootcamp Partition.  Only issue I had initially was that cities were freezing when I opened them and then I deleted the Bridge file from the NAM as suggested here.

Now everything seems to be working great so far.  Stable, fast, and smooth.  One less reason to use Windows now.  Thanks for the help here from all who posted.

Pretty good here. Still have the occasional crash to desktop or glitchy city behavior (randomly running out of money happens a lot in one tile) and have lost or had to delete a couple of cities but generally more than functional and worth the $$$. I would like to see the Internet-plugin issue resolved, however.

I suppose I spoke too soon, just hit the limit at 2.4gb. However, now I have to remove files until I'm down to 1.9gb in order for it to work again. Ridiculously frustrating, because now in order to get the game to work I have to remove essential files, which make the game not work.

I seriously hope there's a way to fix this error, or my days of playing Simcity are probably over yet again.

Weird that the limit is different for different people. I tried playing the game again, and shuffling around my plugins to see if it was one specific plugin causing the issue, but nope, it seems to be a hard cap 1.4GB limit. Extremely frustrating, because now my existing cities are loading with a bunch of boxes in them because a whole bunch of plugins had to removed. I'm seriously considering going back to the old SimCity game that I had. Still no update from Aspyr in the Mac App Store.
