The exact same happened when Empire Earth 2 came out. People complained it diden't work on there computers despite meeting the requirements while it worked perfectley on others (including mine which I hope will be repeated when I get my hands on it at last). Well thats technology for you.20.gif

I went to a website called Civfanatic.com and thousands of people are complaining about errors. Some rivers are black, they crash when they go to world view, people downloaded the 152patch and now their computers keep crashing. This is seriously a disaster. I fixed tons of errors by buying another new memory chip which fixed the problem, but I'm still not fully happy about a few errors here and there.

Well, I got it recently. And it is fun and awesome.

But my poor computer. For some reason Civ 4 makes my computer's marginally acceptable video card scream...

No seriously. You can hear it's wailing pain from down the hall.

But man, I'm really loving how you can conquer with culture. That may not be a new feature, but it's new to me because the last Civ I played was civ2 where most things had to be won the old fashioned way:
Military Conquest.

Yes, since I last posted I was having problems (which I still am 18.gif), but besides that, this game is very addictive. I recommend this game to all... it is worth the play... but I must admit that it isn't worth the errors and problems. I say wait a few months until Civ 4 comes out with another patch to fix the error (and hopefully the patch fixes the errors).

Well, I know I talked to you about this in another thread, but when you do install Civ 4... make sure that directly after you do that that you download the two main patches on the official Civ4 website known as Civ4.com. Hope you enjoy the game... I'm actually very satisfied with the game now.

The game got me, I have now logged over 800 hours. I have found the highest leader ratings come from domination victories, and the quicker the better. I did nothing but play the game for two months, but I think the new is wearing off finally.

I have a good computer, so I have not had one crash with the game. The same computer requires that I save SC4 very often, to keep the it from crashing to desktop.

Like any game it has it's good points and some poor ones. The graphics are fair, but the animations don't always coincide. The video's are excellent, as games go. I can see where you would need a fairly fast computer not to have some lag. I like the fact that the game auto saves every four turns, and you can save the game at any point and go back to any of the saves. Unlike SC4 where you must exit the game and copy the file in a different folder to have a backup.

The game is semi-action, and quite strategiclly oriented, with literlly hundreds of game play options.

i dont think that any civ game will compare to civ2, just based on the newness of it all, but i think civ4 is overall a great game, and i love the addition of religions, it adds another cultural aspect(which was my favorite addition in civ3).
my only real complaint about the game is that its not as east to mod as earlier versions.  civ3 even came with the mod program, which added unlimited styles of play.

For the week ending February 25th, Civilization IV was the sixth best selling PC game in North America according to NPD Group which tracks unit sales across the continent. Star Wars: Empire at War tops the list with World of Warcraft in second and EverQuest: Prophecy of Ro in third.

  1. Recommended specs: 2.6GHz or AMD 2600+ or better, 512MB RAM, ATi 9600/nvidia 6200 or better

Even with those specs, many people still have crashes because of video memory problems. I bought a whole new computer for this game with actually above the top specs and it would crash. It wasn't until ATI gave out a new patch to fix the crashes. It has fixed many people's computer, but they are still not 100% satisfied and neither am I.

And yes, the game is truly addicting. For the first time, I stopped playing it yesterday. I'm moving closer to humanity!
