Converting a SC4 save game map into a grayscale

Can such a thing be done? I have a city tile all terraformed and awaiting building which then CTD before I can even "Obliterate" it. I would rather not have to terraform it all over again and was wondering if I could export it to a grayscale then reimport it back as a map.

Even better, if you have Windows 7 or later you might be able to recover the file.  Go into Documents\Regions, open the region folder, and right-click on the file with the city's name.  Go to Properties, and there should be a tab that says Previous Versions.

 

If there aren't any backup versions available, you can go with your original plan by using SC4 Terraformer to export a height map.  (Not quite the same as a grayscale, but it can be re-imported with SC4 Terraformer).  It's easy to learn, I promise, I just did it a few days ago.
