Does anyone know if there's a mod to stop the ugly effects of residential building abandonment?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, but to get the reference you'd best ask in the STEX forum under the "Can't find it, ask here" thread.  You can get the site index by clicking on the male symbol on the extreme right of the page header.

Using such a mod masks the more serious effects of building abandonment, though, which can really mess up a city.  Much better to fix the underlying problem.

Do you have the NAM installed?

Instead of complaining about this little trap in the game for the unwary, why not just learn how to cope with it?

An abandonment policy is better than a mod as it avoids all the little traps.

If a lot abandons, downgrade it one level.  If it is at the bottom, change the type.

Here you go man, this should do what you need. I use it, and works great! It not only prevents buildings from becoming dilapidated, but also from downgrading and other problems. Now, of course its better to "fix" the underlying problem... but if your like me and could give a rats ass about the whole simulation aspect of the game, then your probably just worried about making a cool looking, pretty city! This will help, very much...

I do suggest disabling it though if your wanting to actually play the game, and not just design a pretty city. Also, though it's not my cup o tea, there is definitely something to be said about cities that function efficiently and properly, and don't just look nice...

My suggestion is to get the Less Abandonment mod by Bones1, which works wonders for me. It makes it harder to get $$ and $$$ development in the first place, but then these buildings can tolerate a higher drop in desirability (as a result of air pollution, noise etc) without getting dilapidated or abandoned. This is achieved by setting the desirabilty threshold to get $$ and $$$ development higher than that to be dilapidated. I haven't felt that it has hindered the development of my cities, because I have been able to satisfy completely (exhaust) $$ and $$$ demands.

The mod has been incorporated into CAM, albeit with its settings a little lowered (some thought they had been set too high).

Yes I use the NAM, and all I care about is aesthetics and making pretty cities. City simulation does not matter to me, in fact the only time I ever use the simulator is to grow buildings, check traffic and let cars run.

    Thanks guys.
