I think I'm back... I think...

Believe it or not, Simcity finally works! :D I don't know why, but the last time I install it, the game refused to work. Now it works, but I can't trust my computer, so I can't say I'm back yet. So yes, I'll need to rebuild by plugins, my cities, my city journals, my mods (Future Walls and Barsoom Project part 2) and my programs. But I said before, I don't trust my computer :lost:

Anyway, I think it's a good idea to play with the screen resolution. This time I'll use the 1280 x 1024, the resolution of my monitor. My silly question is, should I keep it? The buttons are smaller, but the pictures are larger. What to you think?

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

Welcome to Fairview, my new city journal *:D

Welcome back!

1280 x 1024 is a good solution, but it also depends on the specifications of your computer. I'm running my SC4 on a very old computer, so 1280 is too much for me. I've had a very unstable computer for Simcity at first, but since I've changed some settings in SC4 launcher it got much better. I've set the CPU-count on 1 and I also turned on Direct X rendering (instead of the default software/hardware render in the settings of the game. Now I almost never get crashes.

I also always copy every plugin twice. This way I always have a recent back-up. Something else that helped for me was DATpacker. My computer couldn't handle reading all those single files, since I have (almost) every plugin in DAT-files everything got much faster and more stable.

If you still have problems with stability you could always change the resolution to 1024 x 798 for example.

Good luck!

I run the game on 1600 x 1200 and yes the icons and buildings are smaller but the detail is worth it.  You'll get used to it...and oh ya...Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner.

PS....I'm glad your back (maybe)...because I love your creations and would hate to see them stop.

Or if you prefer more panoramic views try 1280x800 in Windowed Mode.

IMO it's good to keep all your downloaded plugins, as archives, in separate folder - backup is best pony.

Welcome back.  Why don't you trust your computer?  Is it getting close to its best before date?

Oh, c'mon.  The  computer is a machine, devoid of feelings.  It is not a subject of trust, it can only work correctly or (usually) not work at all.  However, remember GIGO ::= Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Somehow passing crap through a computer always seems to sanctify it, but it is still crap.

Psst, I was just quoting Paranoia. This is THE COMPUTER's credo:

Of course, he will kill you during the game. Multiple times ;).

Terring's talk of lack of trust in his computer reminded me of this.

By the way, the phrase is also used as random message in the logs of many FTP programs.
