Computer not Working?

I've never mentioned it, but now it's getting on my nerves, and I'm thinking I can find some help for this here. Every post I've made since the beginning of the summer has been from iPad. Because my computer wasn't working. When I try and turn this Windows 7 on, it does nothing, the starting up appears, then it lags, and lags, and lags, and lags, and lags some more. I suspected it was a data overload, so I got rid of SimCity 2013, since it's a bad game and I haven't played it since he day I got it. After deleting several other useless programs, I attempt to get back on, but it still doesn't work, and when it does, it lags like you wouldn't believe.

The computer was bought in 2010 if it matters.

So, does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Agreed.  Sounds like an unmaintained machine.  Windoze wears out if you don't keep it cleaned up.  I'd take everything you want to keep off-line to a DVD set, or some memory cards (lacking an external HDD), then initialize the whole works and install Windows 8 (or Linux, if you have the nerve).

I have moved your topic to the technical issues forum because I think you will find help there easier. :)

Once you've tried safe mode, a good tool for removing unnecessary junk is CCleaner. It can delete temporary files and free up disk space in general. It also includes a registry editor. Though do be careful when editing the registry, and be sure to follow the prompt to make a backup beforehand. Personally I'd recommend leaving the registry alone, and just removing unwanted files. Messing with it can sometimes create more trouble than it's worth. I've set CCleaner to run once at every login (via Task Scheduler). This only deletes files in the checked categories, and doesn't clean the registry.

Another thing that can slow your PC down are startup services. While some are system programs which need to run on boot, others are not needed. To check this, press Win+R to open the run menu. Then type msconfig and click OK to open the System Configuration options. Viewing the "Services" and "Startup" tabs allows you to unckeck programs to prevent them from loading.

See this image:

  • Services tab:  Displays all services that run on boot. Before modifying, remember to check the "Hide all Microsoft services" option, as these should be left alone.
  • Startup tab:  Only displays non-system programs. These can usually be safely disabled.

This should hopefully improve your loading times, and free more memory.

I seem to remember that windows automatically turns on the file indexing service.  Turn it off.
