Issues with deliver trucks leaving the city without delivering

I am having an issue where I have gearing my city up to export processors and TV's so I have many trucks taking the goods out of my city. The problem is that once they get through my traffic built up and the highway off ramp they immediately U turn out of my city and go back onto the highway taking the cash for the export with them. Is the problem the traffic even though they have gotten into my city already or is it that they don't want you to make all the money that I feel I am missing out on ( they do seem to come back and join the queue to get back into the city), or is it just a traffic glitch?

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This seems to be a fairly common issue. I have got around it by cutting my trade ports off from the highway connections and forcing export via rail and/or sea.

Try setting up your city with R and C in a completely segregated area (but with the freeway connection as nothing will build otherwise) to your manufacturing specialisation and trade.

Connect the two with rail or streetcars only and force the sims to commute using the mass transit options to the area with the manufacturing. Remember that your sims will walk along streetcar tracks to get to work which can help getting the power and utilities working but this will stop cars from entering the manufacturing zone. I use little stretches of streetcar track like a foot path for the sims.

This means that you have to set up an entire city with two sets of all of the essential services like power, water, sewage etc. It also means a lot of forward planning but the benefits of a city that does not have to overcome traffic to trade outweigh the dual expense of utilities.

This approach will stuff up contribution to a great work as they are dependant upon a road based trade connection as far as I know but I just gift a few million from a few of these cities and buy a great work with the gift money and a bit of importing.

Delivery trucks give up and return home as they get fed up sitting in traffic.... seems a bit silly to turn around once they get to your city...

 

Its a pain in the arse playing in public regions to as you have even less control of highway traffic.....

I never do. I find the multiplayer experience way too frustrating to put up with it in the long term, let alone the additional traffic issues that come out of it.

Thanks for the help! It seems to of settled down for now and if it pick up I might need to take more drastic actions. Now if they had one way streets in the game managing the inflow of traffic would be a lot simpler.

I think I may of figured out why the delivery trucks turn around. I think it has to do with no freight for them to pick up and export due to it already being taken by another truck. I noticed this is what the cargo ships did they never docked if there were no supplies at the trade port but I still wonder what happens with the money that they don't drop off.
