Railway trains not displayed properly

Hi guys,

I have a little problem with the passenger trains for the normal railway in SimCity 4, as they have some strange models (see attached screenshot). That's why I would be very happy, if you could give me some advice or idea how to fix the problem. Interestingly, the freight trains are displayed as usual.

The screenshot actually shows two of the trains which are displayed on my SimCity4 version. I only built passenger stations, so it has to be a commuter train.

My Specifications

SimCity4 Version: Windows SimCity 4 Deluxe (downloaded from Steam)

Plugins/Updates: None (I had installed NAM 31.2, CAM and some other mods, but I removed them and afterwards reinstalled the game)

PC: Windows 7, Intel i7 2nd Gen., nVidia GT555M, 8GB RAM

In order to solve the problem, I thought about replacing the Maxis Passenger Train by a train mod, however I only managed to get additional train types while the strange ones still appear.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Best regards

HZH

Don't worry, those green things are little track checkers, which are standard Maxis models. They're just a visual effect to represent rail maintenance, and don't replace any of the train automata. In fact, all moving automata (cars, trains, planes) are only animations, and don't represent actual traffic movement. The frequency that a train appears will depend on it's usage and the station's capacity.

However, if you wish to remove the checkers, you could use little mod. For it to take effect, you may have to re-build your existing stations.

So these little green cars are just track checkers? Good to hear that my SimCity4 still works properly.

And thanks for the link to that mod, I will definitely use that one as imho those green cars are very irritating, not to mention their horrible look.

All railroads have little track checking cars.  Removing them removes what little realism there is.

To continue this subject - Does anyone know of a mod that would let the little "checkers" report a broken track line or something like that?  This sure would be handy in a city with a  lot of taller buildings where you can't check the line easily.

There is no such thing as a 'line' in Simcity 4, there's just 'rail' that's used to transport sims. If one tile of rail is missing, the game won't see it as a gap in the line, since it's still 'just rail'. It makes as much sense for the game as if the line were complete. The track checkers don't do anything, I think. They are just animations, like the taxi's around stations are also nothing more than animations.

To check for a complete "line" in any network, turn on the traffic congestion display.  With all the lines turned green (if not congested) you can easily see any breaks.
