Game won't start

When I attempt to start the game by clicking the desktop icon, the bridge background starts to appear for 5 seconds then disappears and nothing happens after that. I am using disc two and it should be readable since i just reinstalled the game and everything went okay.  I have restarted the computer many times already(which usually works), and i made sure the game is not running in the background.

-I have the deluxe version

-moved plugins out to make sure there were no problems

-Reinstalled game

Computer specs are

Processor-AMD Phenom II N640 Dual Core Processor 2.90 GHz

              System Type-64 bit operating system

              RAM-4.00 GB

              Windows 7

Graphics-ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series

The first thing I think of in a situation like this is that the accelerated sound is not set up properly.  Do you have speakers or head phones plugged in to the port?  The game will not run without accelerated sound enabled.

Not until you try that.  The game specifically wants to have speakers/headphones.  You could try the option -audio:off but I am not sure that would be recognized before the start-up quits.

OK, now let's see if we can try some other stuff.

If you have anything in your Plugins folder, move it out of the game and try to start.  The game will make an new Plugins folder.  If the game starts now, then you have plugin trouble.

If you have anything in the folder SimCity 4/Exception Reports pick the latest txt file and open it in notepad.  Select the first 20 lines of this and post it here.  It will give us a pretty good clue as to whether your game is up to date and may even tell us what is going on.

The reports should be stored inside your personal "Documents\SimCity 4\Exception Reports" folder. If this exists, post the contents (of the newest file) and we'll take a look.

Also, from your screenshot, it seems you've installed the game directly to the root of your C:\ drive. If we can't find any obvious issues from the report, it might be worth re-installing in "C:\Program Files (x86)\", which is the default option. On installation, do not change the path or folder structure.

If you don't have an Exception Reports folder in your C:\Documents\SimCity 4 folder, you've never had a recordable crash.
