  1. If I make a 3x3 High density whatever, can I later put in a 1x3 behind it with arrows not facing the same direction, and expect a 4x4 to take it over?
  2. I have a two cities, one all $$$ and the other everything else (with some I-HT).  The $$$ city sometimes has sims with long commute times abandoning buildings, even though there are tons of CO$$$ jobs in the city and close by.  I think they are commuting to the I-HT in the other city. Can NAM or something help with that?
  3. Are there good I-HT lots available, preferably in packs, that provide more jobs?  I'd rather use more lots rather than use the jobs doubler mod.
  4. I have a large monorail network.  Should I provide bypasses around the stations so monorail traffic isn't slowed?
  5. The STEX DVD.  Does it have an installer for all the lots?

1. That is a possibility, yes.

2. Crossing the tile border is concidered as long commute time. The game does not share information about fysical location of buildings across tile borders. Only RCI existence and amount is stored and read while working with neighbour tile. There is nothing that we can do about it.

3. You are not lacking the you?

4. No. You don't need to add bypasses for that purpose. You can create bypasses with fewer stops as rush hour track. I sometimes do this with my ground rail networks.

5. Someone else has to answer to this one. Sorry.

No, the files on the disks are identical copies of the actual files, as they appeared on the exchange at that time. The DVD features a user interface, which has a similar appearance to the STEX. So unless an upload has been updated since, it'll be in exactly the same format as it originally was (i.e. in a compressed ZIP file).

To help speed up the process, one thing I can recommend is to use a file manager, such as 7-Zip. The files will still need to be copied from the discs, but it just allows multiple ZIP files to be extracted at once. When doing this, it's always best to unpack them into a separate "SC4 Downloads" folder, which makes it easier to organise them later into a suitable structure.

Bypasses are not needed for this purpose either.  If you use properly modded stations (such as are found in the NAM), bypasses are never needed.  In these stations, trains neither stop nor slow down at intermediate stations.  In the original Maxis stations, el rail and monorail actually cross intermediate stations in zero time, meaning the more stations you have, the faster your network is.  This has been fixed in the NAM.

Thank you Z1. I was aware of this. I am using fast tracks to fight congestion and for visual realism. My rush hour lines go trough large stations, skipping all smaller stations between them. I should have explained better.

This is actually how trains work in South Finland. Regional trains and long distance trains may sometimes use same tracks, but not same stations. Large stops, like Tikkurila in Vantaa, serve both long distance trains and regional trains. From ther the next stop for long distance train is Pasila, skipping all regional stops between. Passengers that left the train in Tikkurila can take the regional train to travel to their destination between Tikkurila and Pasila. There is often a third (or fourth) rail for bypassing trains near stations.

1. Just remember the arrow of a zoning should always facing some sort of road network (road, street, ect). If not, your gonna get no road zots and nothing will grow.

2. NAM would help reducing that problem. Also, you should always control the number of R$$$ in your region using tax. If left unchecked, they will just grow excessively.

This is not necessarily true.  The only requirement is that the zone itself border on a road network (though not a highway).  That's why you can put a zone at an intersection and then put an RTMT station right in front of the arrows, and the Sims will just use the road on the other side of the zone.

This is definitely true.

This is a bit overstated.  Depending on how you build your city, it's possible to have full employment for all your R$$$ Sims without raising taxes on them.  I have done so in all my cities.

Thought I read that this doesn't work for R zones that are 1xwhatever? Isn't it, as long as the R zone is 2x or 3x which allows for at least one arrow to connect with the network in front of it?  And C & I are not effected the same?

Tax them! lol..   or just keep them focused in one area and not spread out everywhere. Create a high wealth area near high wealth jobs

All three zones are affected, although not the same; for example, residentials will become abandoned if they have no road access, while Sims just won't go to work at businesses whose road access is blocked.

What you are referring to is that if you put an RTMT stop in front of a residential zone (for example), the zone must be wider than the RTMT stop for it to have road access.  This is true if the stop is in the middle of a block.  But if it's at an intersection, the zone can be blocked by the RTMT station and still get access from the side road.  If you run a road in back of the zone, that counts as access too.

^That's what I meant in more detail, when a 1x zone is surrounded by other zones with the RTMT in front. The R abandonment is what I thought, but lack of jobs for Cs I did not know. Not sure if I did that in my cities, but will be aware/cautious from here on out.

  1. No a 3 x 4
  2. NAM.  Who takes out the garbage in the $$$ city, and supervises the apartment buildings?
  3. Yes.  Try the LEX as well as the STEX
  4. No.  Use terminals instead.  No through traffic in the terminal.
  5. No.  It operates the same as if you were on-line.  It downloads to your Download directory (if you have one).  E.g. <you>\Documents\Downloads
