Industrial Tech Levels

Anyone have any idea what about higher education makes industry upgrade? Sometimes after I plop a community college I get the 5 medium tech industries to make a processor factory right away. Other times it seems to take forever! I plop my cc near industry and it is always full of students.

In the education menu, click on the tech overlay. It looks like two cogs. This shows a purple line emanating from the educational source (university, community college or Vu tower). That line pumps tech to industry, and industry techs up the longer it is on that line.

Due to the vagaries of the agent system this can go around the houses literally before it reaches your industry.

If you want to stop a factory at level 2 for the processor factory, just dezone underneath it and it won't rebuild until rezoned.

Yeah I saw the tech line. I guess what I'm asking is why sometimes do my industries stay at such a low level even though tech level wise they are in the green. They sometimes never upgrade.

Honestly, I think it takes a bit. I feel like my one city with the community college doesn't bump like the university does. But over all, I think they upgrade as your city does. They certainly need workers to increase tech level, so check that too. Otherwise, bulldoze and rezone and see if that helps.

I am really starting to think that there is a reason why a city has so many fires so often, they burn and go abandoned, or burn to rubble, forcing you to bulldoze them, then if the circumstance are good it will rebuild to the next higher wealth and/or density.

Use the building density overlay. They upgrade when the tech level peaks.

I've had tech levels "peaked" for days in some of my buildings and they haven't upgraded. Other times its almost instantaneous.
