BBC's take on Justin Trudeau's first months in office.

IMHO, it is about right.  So far, so good.  The real proof of this pudding will be the Budget.  Notwithstanding revenue from legalized pot, there can only be so much money to go around.

    "Perhaps it would be wise
    "Not to carp and criticize
    "For it's very evident
    "These attentions are well meant."

Defense Minister's take on the ISIL situation.

An experienced field commander with three tours in Afghanistan, Gen. Sajjan, has 'been there, done that'.  His point about rooting ISIL fighters out of embedded circumstances with boots on the ground (Iraqi boots, that is) is probably the best course of action rather than bombing strikes with the associated collateral damage.

Some people will go to any length to be last.

Set up to be loaded last.  IMHO "None of the Above" should appear on all ballots and with resounding consequences:  If "None of the Above" wins, then none of the candidates on this ballot should be allowed to run for this office for at least two terms, and a by-election called.

The Canadian Criminal Justice System messed up BIG TIME!

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/motherisk-experts-forensic-testimony-1.3433881

If Canada was as peaceful, tolerant, kindly, just, fair, progressive, or rational as they claim, everyone who originally claimed innocence who was punished based of "results" from Motherisk would be exonerated and given reparations proportional to the damages they suffered.

There is a reason why Americans are fleeing the USA in record numbers while Canada has seen low immigration from here. I'm sick and tired of the English speaking world! I will move to a better nation that speaks Spanish or Italian as soon as feasible.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Our courts usually don't screw up this way, but when they do, it is a doozy.  If you think that is something, try the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report when the Canadian government was found to have committed genocide against our indigenous peoples for over a century.  Sick Kids screw up is small potatoes compared to trying to kill off several racial groups and cultures in one foul swoop.

The current government has adopted all the recommendations of the TRC and is in the throes of figuring out how to implement a lot of it.  Some of those isolated northern settlements are almost beyond reach except by air or water (in the summer only).

The Motherisk policy goof was due to trusting the judgement of a single researcher.  Family courts are so overloaded that we simply can't handle the mandate without a lot more people and therefore expense.  I am rather hoping that some legal heads will roll, and not uphill.

If you want to live in a foreign culture, try moving to Quebec City.  Your Français will need some modifications in order to understand the Joual.  On the other hand, try Firenze, where the Italian national language is the native tongue as taught in most Italian classes and the food is absolutely the best.

Let us throw the fox in the hen house:

Oath of Hippocrates: Ancient and Modern Versions.

Proposed Canadian Legislation Argument on Physician Assisted Dying.

Something has fallen though the cracks here.  Physicians are not supposed to be poisoners.  That is the job of the (ancient) Apothecary.

    This won't do.

Yet another product of the previous, secretive Conservative government.  This needs to be repealed and replaced with a civilian board for all disciplinary matters no matter how minor.  If the infraction is serious enough for a 'conduct board' it is serious enough to some branch of the civilian tribunal.  No police force should ever be allowed to investigate itself no matter how minor the issue.

    Only for Canadians, eh?

The big question here is whether any physician takes the oath of Hippocrates seriously.  They all take it.  It is against the oath to kill people.

The proper poisoner for legal purposes should be the Apothecary.  I remember reading a poem of that title while I was in school, but can't find a reference.

There is trouble in the cellar.

The Harper government and the PMO appointed by him have been found to have feet of clay right up to the eyes.  Mike Duffy gets off because the rules of the Senate are whatever anyone chooses to believe.

The Senate needs a new set of rules on expenses and proper use of funds, and a serious internal watchdog (a Senate committee) as well as being subject to the Auditor General, who reports to the House of Commons.  I expect that there will be a huge effort over the summer to put all this in place.  This is a huge blot on Steven Harper's copybook and the Conservative Party of Canada.

It also militates for removing politics from the Senate including moving the appointive power from the Prime Minister to a higher power, namely the Crown in the person of the Governor General in council with the Provinces.  Because the Senate is the "chamber of sober second thought" there is no way that any member of that place should ever be beholden to any political party.

This was not just a shoe that dropped.  It was more like an anvil, forge and the whole smithy.

Whee!! The fox is definitely in the hen house.

This will eventually destroy the reason for having liquor control boards in the provinces, and lead to a new way to tax alcohol sales.  The provincial boards have just been declared unconstitutional.

Supreme Court of Canada will wind up with this one because you can be sure New Brunswick will appeal.  This should put paid to the BS of importing booze across provincial borders once and for all.  This is the last echo of the general stupidity of prohibition.

When the Supreme Court goes along with this (or refuses to hear it), the various control boards in the provinces will be out of business.  Massive unemployment of snivel serpents, and a load off the LEO people who have better things to do than chase guys with five cases of beer in their trunk.  The unemployed people who know how to sell booze will be absorbed by the private retailers that spring up and the super markets.  Definitely time to update resumés.

Wine producing provinces (B.C., Ontario, Quebec) should rejoice.

At last, booze in the grocery store without provincial oversight beyond tax.  A final good night for Mrs. Grundy.

Trudeau and Cameron want tough hostage stand from G7.

And with good reason.  The money only convinces the murdering criminals that this is the way to prosper.  If they can't get funds this way, ordinary people on the streets will be safer.

We just stood our ground on this recently, and painful though it was, the death of a Canadian national was better than exposing more Canadians abroad to this threat.
