    CA-615 - Will It Happen?

    elhe-002.jpg

Part of Division St/CA-615 has been built (south of CA-252), but north of it is mired in contraversy.  Local residents see no reason for a road that only carries 1500-2500 to be upgraded to a freeway, when I-15 runs about 1/2 a mile parallel.

    elhe-001.jpg

This is the neighborhood that would be significantly disrupted to make way for a freeway - including the removal of a lot of commercial space.  The loss of these taxes could be quite significant for this part of town, causing other residents to pay more.  Will the rest of CA-615 happen?  I don't know.

    National City In The Spotlight
     swnc-001.jpg

Southwest National City is best known for having being part of the I-5 Corridor.  They're trying despirately here to become better known for their waterfront that was recently completed, and for being a home to high-tech industry.

    swnc-002.jpg

Some of the mixed use areas near I-5.  The residents here don't love the truck traffic, but since many work at those businesses, they can't complain that much.

    swnc-003.jpg

It can be difficult to find parking near the foot of Harbor Ave, but there really are plenty of spots available - just keep going if at first you don't succeed!

    swnc-004.jpg

There's plenty of shopping centers near Division Street, including these funky underground malls.  If they don't sell it, you don't want it.

    swnc-005.jpg

This parking lot is never in use.  I really don't know why, but if you ever are looking for a spot keep it in mind.

    swnc-006.jpg

The south side of the bay has some very, very expensive housing that was recently grown.

South Bay Freeway Replaces South Bay Blvd

    swnc-007.jpg

CA-54 has changed from being an avenue to a freeway, resulting in the crazy interchange shown above.  Because the same routing was used, a number of local businesses and apartments were removed.  Local officials hope residents will forget this before the next election.

    Traffic Builds in National City

    nwnc-003.jpg

As National City grows the traffic is getting thicker and thicker.  At this junction of CA-615 and I-5 there's about 15,000 commuters/day passing through, and that's just on 5N.

    nwnc-004.jpg

This originally was much nicer looking, when it was an avenue intersection.  As CA-615 started replacing the avenue city engineers found this creative arrangement to allow traffic to flow freely without cutting off neighborhoods.  It's starting to become congested now though.

I-15 Link to Riverside County Completed

    nfbr-001.jpg

Here you can see the freshly completed portion of I-15 through the farming community of Fallbrook, then (to the north) the Fallbrook Tunnel, then it goes off to Riverside County to the north.

    nfbr-002.jpg

Here you can see one of the newest subdivisions of Fallbrook in the lower left, and some of the oldest farms in town to the upper right.  I-15 was located to displace as few farms and homes as possible.

    nfbr-003.jpg

The village of Fallbrook around Old Highway 395, the main arterial through town.  You can see that new houses are being built all the time.

    nfbr-004.jpg

And, more farms.  These are the first farms to be grown in SD County, but expect more once I get into building rural areas.  I just haven't really felt like building any recently, but this got me started again I think.  19.gif

Congrats on reaching the 2 million for this massive region! It's amazing how much traffic you have, I've never seen so much automata in once place. (or maybe the problem is, I'm not paying attention enough?) Also, that's a very nice farming community, it looks very realistic... a lot like a lot of highway towns around here as well.

Hey hey!  Thanks to all for the comments.  For the # of cars, it's an automata adjustment partially, and if I show traffic, I usually take the shot at 9 am or 5 pm, to really get it filled up looking.

Also, other than areas served by the subway (Downtown, Harbor Island, Barrio Logan, Coronado, Banker's Hill and Golden Hill) there's no mass transit.  It forces a lot more traffic.  19.gif

And then the main reason I posted: Thanks to any and all who nominated me for the Golden Llama for Most Realistic CJ.  I really appreciate it, though I have to admit I'm very relieved that JD won for Edmonton .  It's always a pleasure to lose to the best.  40.gif

    South Bay Growth

    sdc-1115.jpg

The Standard Sattelite Shot.  The newly grown cities are all labelled, and the growth of CA-75 can be seen here also.

    swib-001.jpg

Here's Southeast Imperial Beach.  Beautiful sandy beaches that aren't usually that crowded.  Please, stop by and spend your tourist dollars here!

    neib-001.jpg

The freeway path of CA-75 along the south edge of San Diego Bay.  Most of the early-morning traffic through here is eastbound, as shown here.

    neib-002.jpg

Northeast Imperial Beach is mostly middle and upper income families living in suburban sprawl on a large grid.  Tons of big-box retailers are located all over the area.

    secv-001.jpg

Southeast Chula Vista has a good number of strip malls with every retailer you could imagine - or so it seems.

    secv-002.jpg

The CA-75/I-5 interchange shown here was originally built as a simple T, and local developers failed to notice the planned conversion to a full cloverleaf with a freeway stub extension once these areas reached full build-out.  Many residents were furious when the local Rite-Aid and Perkins were bulldozed about 15 minutes after this shot was taken.

    secv-003.jpg

Although it can't be seen, there was a temporary I-5 ramp south of this shot, but all traffic to Mexico was forced off the freeway for about 6 blocks.  This caused major disruptions for local residents.

    secv-004.jpg

The final product was well worth it, and polls show almost all the local residents agree.  The small S-Curve was built to protect as many exsting houses as possible east of the interchange.

    secv-005.jpg

The current east end of CA-75.  It's hoped to connect to I-805 if the funding is available, but local residents are not too optimistic since I-805 South hasn't even been built yet, and CA-54 dead ends east of National City at the moment.

Thanks for the comments guys, it reminds me it's worth the time to put updates like this together.  19.gif

    Regional Transportation Plan Updated

    <ahttp://img132.exs.cx/img132/3820/roads-20041116sm.jpg width=500 border=0>

As shown here, the regional transportation plan has been updated to give our residents the opportunity to see how we expect the region to grow.  Not all freeways are guaranteed to be built, as some are going to be dependent on land costs and revenues available.

    It's a link!

Great transportation view...Those highways look very hard but rewarding I know what you've gone threw. People need to realize the scale of this massive region and how much work has been done in it. An excelent recreation. I know what it takes and I se it here.
