...I've had a love hate relationship with this wonderful game for years. And you amazing people that make the mods for this game have not helped. lol. I'll play it for a month...put it away for another. Always coming back wanting more. My problem is I want realism..I want my cities to be perfect. Long story short....Thank you to all those awesome people that make those great mods that keep me coming back to this game.

If you want your cities to be ' perfect ' .. create them in-perfectly..

SimCity allows you to build the Idealistic definition of the perfect city. After all when did you last move to/visit " THE Perfect City "

yes I know we all live in or have been to a City we consider ' Perfect ', but is it/was it..???

The people who build these MOD's do a great job and more love to them... and without them and these MOD's It definitely would be a different game.

So I Join you in praise for their work, and hope they continue mastering their art's for the sake of us untalented few..

I hear you OP. I have some suggestions:

1: Plan out your region, and then those cities within your region, and then those areas in your cities. Playing without planning and you'll get the grid cities where every tile looks crowded and unrealistic. You can never plan too much.

2: Look at CJ's and on Youtube. There are a large number of users on Simtropolis (mainly those who have many views to their CJ's) who make very realistic cities of all varieties.

3: Make goals. This is what will keep you playing for much longer, and keep your enjoyment up.

4: Maybe share what you make? This will encourage you to do our best work, and that way people will offer their help.

Good luck mate

Thank you Bundy and Max. I've had this game since it's release. And I should clarify.... the people that make the mods make such wonderful things that it's so hard to just stop playing. I have folders upon folders of hundreds of mods. I spend more time on Google maps looking a city layouts than playing it seems. I've become addicted to looking at large city industrial zones. This is not a video game... well,it is,but it's just as much an educational tool as it is a game.

I play then I have to quit because it starts to dominate my life.

However each time I come back back I learn how to do more.

You can get good ideas reading the journals.

The journal keepers are very talented, what I view is just jaw dropping.

This game reminds is like golf. When you think you got it, you don't.

Playing this game keeps you learning as your cities grow.

Reality is rather a bit much.  This is a game with a 2D orthogonal grid.  It concentrates on go to work traffic.  It doesn't have the necessary variables to provide anything more than a modicum of reality.  No winding roads, no nice crescents except those few created by the custom content makers, nothing to provide for momma Sim who stays home all day.  Flat water table, and only one.  No weather (yet).

Players need to take it for the game that it is.  You can still have a lot of fun, and many players create fantastically beautiful City Journals.  People looking for reality need to put that aside and enter the world of SimCity where the fourth version can be used as a creative canvas to express yourself in the building of municipalities both tiny and huge, even though the largest unit is only 16 Km2

The base game is pretty good, except for the symptoms of EAs rush to the bank.  Over the last decade custom content makers have fixed and enhanced the basic platform to be something that has outlived it's best before date by about 8 years.

Blessed be the custom content makers.

I know what you are sayin'. I get on the map app on my iPhone and look at and study road layouts.

Also when driving I always look at how to incorporate things in my cities. I have never done as much extracurricular activities with any other game!

Choose your plugins wisely, and test them carefully in your sandbox.  Indiscriminate downloading leads to blood, toil, tears and sweat.

I play every day, normally, and download only things I need.  Be careful to avoid the "Gee, that's neat, download it" syndrome.

Lol!!! When I first started using the custom content all I did was " Awe, that's pretty, let me get it." It took hours just to put everything in my plugins folder the first few days. Luckily I really haven't had too much of a problem with that. A brown box here or there that I quickly found since I have my plugins folder nice and organized. Now though, like you, I only download something I need or are going to use. The "Awe that's pretty" stage is over for me now. Though it does still take a good five minutes for the game to get going once I turn my computer back on again. But it is well worth it!

I've changed the topic title since the original title was very vague. I hope the new title reflects the contents better.

Learnt that one the hard way... as you Know.

I have a relatively small plugin folder and most of it is data packed (about 6m before D.P.. also sped up the load times...THANK YOU DATA PACKER),

But I have three(3) other folders kept separate in my documents folder and named after where the file was downloaded,(STEX/DEX/SPEG4),

    these are some what larger...

After this fashion I can move plugins in and out at will whilst keeping my originals and trusted safe and ready to go..

    NOTE:  When using Data Packer

I found out the hard way,

When using commonly updated plugins, such as NAM/CAM/SPAM etc. It's a lot easier to leave these out and NOT data pack them with the rest of the folder,

else it's a real pain in the proverbial at update time.

If by realism you mean all lots are generic boring realism...

I personally don't see a whole lot of variety in realism. Maybe it's because I don't know the difference between Houston and Euro-Contemporary?

Anyway, taken from a txt file I'm making, there's more, but for now:

-A canal set, except instead of water it's something like blood, acid or the goop from Super Mario Sunshine

-A texture mod with pink roads, blue inner(yellow) lines and green outer(white) lines

-A new (and interesting) waterfront set

    -Minecraft stuff
    -Stores from MAD catalog/ad parodies

-Surreal RCI(or at least more interesting RCI)

This poll suggests that most people would prefer real-world recreations rather than fantasy BATs:

I don't see what people here have against fictional styles. I do understand the need for diagonal buildings and FAR filler though, as it's kind of necessary...

Also, I've seen a stage and church for PaengParks2, I was wondering if they could be downloaded anywhere?
