We have topics about games, so how about a topic about mods? Obviously I'm not talking about Simcity mods, but mods for other games. Here we can tell about our favourite mods and why we love them :golly:

Let me begin with C&C:Reloaded, a mod for Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge that mixes the Tiberian Sun universe with the Red alert 2 universe in the same game.

You can play with Allies, Soviets, Yuri, G.D.I. and Nod, with new weapons and technologies. Chronosphere, Mirage tanks, Kirov airships,  Apocalypse tanks, Masterminds, Magnetrons, Mammoth walkers, Ion Cannon, Tick tanks and Reapers cyborgs are under your command.

However this mod not only brings G.D.I. and Nod in Red Alert 2, but also original Tiberian Sun textures and models. Harvest tiberium and fight in mutated forests. Mix Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 for the ultimate C&C experience.

It's even possible to play mission from Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 in Yuri's Revenge!

During fighting, you can listen awesome tracks from Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun, Firestorm, Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge.

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

oh man,...favorite game mods you say? How much space and time do I have?  :golly:

Since this could go on for a while, I'll just start with a few links and add more later, fair enough?

Favorite place to start is, of course; http://www.moddb.com/mods

Half Life 2 <another place to get decent HL2 mods is PlanetPhillip

Minerva  < curious thing with this one was that the creator was later hired by Valve.

Coastline to Atmosphere ] < the stories, sound design, and game play are really good, but the map designs and

texture placements are a bit quirky,

Strider Mountain               ] < you can tell that they are by Baltic

Black Mesa and additional mods for this mod  < very slick and polished, and very very good.

Underhell  < still a work in progress, but the prologue chapter is available. It is a conversion mod, in that it

does not take  place in the HL2 universe.

G-String  < this is a total conversion mod, in that everything is converted: graphics, sound, gameplay, and story.

Overall design of G-String is similar to a BladeRunner-esq universe.

Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas

Too many to mention, suffice to say that both of my games are heavily modded.

You can get some decent mods from moddb, but the best place to look is Fallout 3 Nexus and Fallout:New Vegas Nexus

Honorable mention is Slawters Mod List

A mod worth tracking as it has not been released yet is Project Brazil, which can be found here and here.

Civ 4 (I do have 5, but it is just a simplified version of the Civilization series hosted by "the game company that shall not be named")

The best place to look for these is Civfanatics

Rhye's and Fall of Civilization is one of the 11 mods included in Beyond the Sword add-on pack.

Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn is worth a look.

Other games I have that are no longer in "retail" format are:

MOO3

Deus Ex and Deus Ex:Human Revolution

RailroadSimulator 2006

C&C:Generals <there was a BattleTech mod for this, but it was never completed?

Civilization:Call to Power  <didn't like CtP2

SuddenStrike2

and The entire S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series

Minecraft's RedPower2 has become essential for me. I refuse to update my game version until the RP2 version matches with it. The amount of content the mod adds is ridiculous and the quality of it is even more so than some of the vanilla stuff. If you've played minecraft before, but not with redpower - you need to download it right now and see what I mean. You'll never want to play the game without it.

One of my favorites is the Cinema Mod for Max Payne 2. It gives your character glasses, but more importantly it makes bullet time a thousand times more awesome. First of all, you have more bullet time so you can stay in bullet time for longer, and second of all, it adds some very awesome music to bullet time. Also you can get a gatling gun in some levels. And a Dirty Harry style colt revolver.

Other awesome mods. Hmm, well I think this one looks pretty neat http://www.moddb.com/mods/company-of-heroes-modern-combat

Replaces all the Company of Heroes units with modern units.

yep gotta second that.

one of the most incredible mods I've played yet.

and, ironically, MP2 with the Cinema Mod gives you the best Matrix game up til now, even tho completely unrelated.

there's also a map which gives you the lobby scene and the mansion entrance scene from the Matrix, together with this mod... You might just think it's an actual Matrix game

you can do fairly amazing things with bethesda games. the overhaul mods for Morrowind and Oblivion are simply a gem, especially for Morrowind as it pulls the game into the Oblivion era... graphic wise. As for Oblivion, I like how it enhances the overall feeling of the map as compared to the original which feels empty and barren once you've played the overhaul.

Same for Skyrim. there's quite a bunch of mods that dramtically enhance gameplay while staying lore friendly; one of the most simple yet awesome ones is Frostfall which gives you exposure to the climate and matching crafting-options like tents, fireplaces, coats and the likes to provide warmth and cover. But there's also a terrible amount of graphic mods which - provided you're pc can handle it - can turn you're Skyrim experience into a cinema-worthy look.

I've modded my game with like 50 mods so far, mostly small, lore friendly gameplay/realism enhancing mods and only a few graphic mods but I'm already slightly lagging in maxed settings so I wonder what monster of a machine was used for these screenshots (provided the person plays the game rather than use it for pictures)

as for more recent games, I must say I like the concept of Ziggys Farcry3 mod which turns it from your not-so-hard everyday open-world-shooter into a considerably realistic challenge that takes away literally every arcade-ish feel from the game. no minimap, no gang-colors, sparse map, no blinking items, no blips, more crafting ingredients,... over 100 things changed.

I gotta admit, I've yet to download it because I wanna finish the game in it's original state first but it's definitely a top priority on my list of things to do gaming.

and one mod you can't have this thread missing: the NAM. you can't name awesome game mods and miss the NAM for it is - despite this being an sc4 forum thus looking like a biased point - one of the best mods in terms of content and gameplay enhancement. period.

Earlier I posted about a mod for Civ4: BTS titled Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn

When you reach the Industrial Era in that mod, can you recognize some of the tracks used in the background music?

I enjoy playing Grand Theft Auto IV's Liberty City Police Department First Response Mod. (Try saying that 5 times fast) It is a mod that allows you to play the game as a COP. You can mod police cars and solve crimes. get into high speed chases and shoot criminals. Without all that boring paperwork!
