Hey guys I'm building my first PC I've been a mac guy since 2007 and have held on to the macbook and it still works great but it wont play games period  yeah so I have been playing ps3 and since the new ps4 isn't backwards compatible as far as I know, and it's going to be in the price range of 500, I have decided to join the PC community :)

SO going into my build. I knew pretty much nothing. Processor Graphics card apu nothing pretty much. I have researched this build for the last two weeks and I am pleased with the outcome of my annoying frustrating but exciting and fun research.

SPECS:  AMD A-10 5800K

G Skill  DDR3 Trident 8 gig 2400 .not bought yet.. SIDE ? whats the diff. between tridX and no X. FM2A85X Extreme6. haven't bought yet. Nother? Is version with the AMD 7000hd worth the extra $40 Cheetah 10K.7 146 GB not bought yet but 10,000 RPM sounds pretty nice.

WIll it help the AMD 5800K processor speed?

an yeah wind 7, wireless, maybe get a card reader not sure if I need it. Opt drive at the cost of $100

OH and I am strictly using this build for gaming and Browsin the web.

AMD A-10 5800 K=$140...Came with free copy of SIMCITYYY ALready bought...

Trident= $85 not the X

FM2= $100, with the int. amd 7000 it's like $140 give or take $10

Case=45

Cheetah hard drive=$40

Windows, opt wireless,=$100

TOTAl shipping and tax incl.= $510 which is def. in my budget.

What do you guys think?

Also I'm thinking about getting a fan. The case is nice and I can add it later.

Am I missing any parts? And my friend who is very familiar with building pc's is helping me.

Very open to any suggestions. I am stuck with the AMD 5800K so keep that in mind please.    Thanks.  I have all the links to this stuff if anyone wants just ask.

    Check out this review, go through the whole thing it's like 19 pages mostly graphs, I think it's a fair assessment of the i3/A-10/A-8/Gtx

    now

    Ge force=$130

    i3=$130                                                                         everything over < = $390+another 50 for 8gb total.

    asus=$40

    corsair=$50          <$50 each so$100 for two of them

    550w atx=40

    I also need to include wind 7, opt drive, wireless which equals= $100

    TOTAL $490        $550

                    ^              ^

                  4GB         8GB

    I assume the processor comes with a fan as well - if not then getting one of those would really be a good idea.

    Unless you want to fry bacon on it.

    I've already changed a few things haha probably have it done in a week.

    I was reading that 2400 mhz with the memory can be unstable

    should I just get a 1600 to be safe.

    Forsure it looks like a great build, I mean when I added it up it was like $390 yeah I missed that 2x 4GB a bundle would make

    sense.  Windows case etc. like another $80 so you could do it for under $500 no problem. You should post a screen shot of your city :)

    SO for me without specifics, AMD A-10

    FM2 motherboard

    Kingston @ 1333Mhz or 1600 Mhz (undecided) 2x4GB

    Western Digital Harddrive..Cool Master case and a fann

    I'm at 480...with a free digital limited edition Simcity, bundle with the A-10

    But windows 7 is being a real thorn in my side putting me at 560.

    It should be a great build though and run all the games I want.

    I have a HDMI input and am using my T.V as the monitor. Not sure how thats gana go, but if it goes like I hope it should be sweet.

    More expensive than I would have liked. not by much though and the AMD A-10 should kick ass.

    Based on my experience, for gaming rigs Intel CPU's are the way to go.

    And for the RAM no need for the faster clock speeds. 1333 or 1600 is fine. You won't feel the difference esp. for a budget build.

    You do not need a top of the line computer to run games today.  Your original build sounds just fine to be honest, you should have no problems at all.  You could go to walmart and buy their computer off the shelf in a box, take it home go buy a cheap graphics card for like $80 and a power supply to match and you will be good as far as games are concerned for a few years.  Total cost including keyboard and mouse and monitor around $500.00.

    A few years ago I would have suggested a really great build, but it has been my experience that it is not needed.  Games are made with inferior machines in mind.  They do that intentionally so that they can reach the larges possible player base, not everyone has a 1337 rig you know.

    The new component in my PC is two years old now and my PC will already eat the face off the next generation of consoles and the next generation of consoles hasn't even been released yet.

    Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

    Why is the AMD A-10 5800k Beating the i3 3220 in tests for the gaming portion?

    I did hear somewhere that the tests are rigged but a lot of the ones I've seen online show that AMD wins with gaming tests.

    Not sure how much that means

    Interesting. Could you send me two links please?

    one for the Walmart comp

    and the second for a graphics card.

    No need for the monitor. HDMI capability needed instead. Monitor would be cool but I am planning on using my T.V.

    Budget under $600 esh I know topic was $510 but it was pay day today haha.

    Thanks metalpuritan

    The computer:

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/HP-Pavilion-p6-2313W-Desktop-PC-with-AMD-A4-3420-Accelerated-Processor-6GB-Memory-500GB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-8-Monitor-Not-Included/21984277?findingMethod=rr

    This thing is ultra cheap but it only come with the graphics card that is integrated with the motherboard, that is no good, maybe okay if all you do is watch videos and surf the web and play browser "games".

    So here is a decent Graphics card, I found this at micro center, they price competatively, so you can find one at YOUR local store or online retailer for about the same price http://www.microcenter.com/product/399343/02G-P3-2637-KM_NVIDIA_GeForce_GT_630_2048MB_DDR3_PCIe_20_x16_Video_Card

    And since this computer was made on the ultra cheap cheap they included with it a power supply that could handle what this cputer was made with and nothing more, so you will need a new power supply to handle the new graphics card as the one that is included will not have the necessary plug for it, neither Nvidia nor ATI, so the link  to a power supply here: http://www.microcenter.com/product/365237/TR2_Series_500_Watt_ATX_Power_Supply  This power supply is cheap but will definitely do the job

    AND all together is under your budget and you get a second monitor(if you have one already) a second monitor is always a plus by the way, watch a movie while downloading all your plugins and installing them or whatever or sell it LOL.

    I know two people I did this for and they can and do play any game they want to play.  I estimate they will be able to do so for at least the next 3 years with this exact set-up, well as long as they keep them clean anyway, they have a dog and they smoke so their PC's get dirty FAST.  You might even be able to find a cheaper PC that is about the same set-up but without the monitor, that will instantly reduce the cost by at least $50.

    So, in summary, this is a $495.00 full computer set that will never give you any troubles, not for at the very least 3 or so years, maybe longer if you can keep it clean.

    Edit:  Oh yeah, that $495.00 price tag is before the rebates for the graphics card and the power supply, after rebates it would be $466.00.

    I assume the processor comes with a fan as well - if not then getting one of those would really be a good idea.

    Unless you want to fry bacon on it.

    HAHAH yeah dude I am worried about that probably going to have to get the hyper cool 212 evo and at $40 bucks it aint bad.

    It comes with a stock heatsink and fan but it might not be enough

    My desktop has this cooler in it and it does the job well.

    But most mainstream CPU's come with a stock cooler... it's usually only the high-end hot-running ones that don't. If your CPU comes with a stock cooler (which your's does) then IMO you probably don't need to replace it with a big aftermarket one. The stock one should be fine.

    It's totally up to you though. The 212 evo is also pretty big... so if you do get it, make sure it'll fit your case and that it's compatible with your CPU socket.

    The other thing is I need a desktop with a HDMI output, I'm going to keep looking for something similar to your description I like the idea. Let me know if you find anything.  :ninja:

    Right I heard the 212 is big I'll keep that in mind. The A-10 shipped today with the simcity limited digital edition code. got it from newegg shipped real quick, very happy  :ninja:  but I'm still searching. Might even return it if I find a full comp with everything and upgrade the graphics card like metalpuritan suggested not sure yet but I hope to have a computer by May 6th (two weeks) at the latest. Hopefully earlier but no theres no rush.

    EDIT: Okay you edited the Wal-Mart PC post when I was quoting it so that threw me off. Disregard this if you want.

    Processor and everything else seems dandy on that. I'm not diggin' that video card though, it's kinda weak. My 2-year-old GeForce GTX 550Ti has more torque than that.

    GT 610

    GTX 550Ti

    Compare.

    Same outer ports as mine though. You'd use the HDMI for an HD TV or something. And if you wanted to do dual-monitors at any point with the card it comes with then you'd have to get an adapter, most likely. One would be connected with a VGA and the other with a DVI. The VGA is more analog video output. The DVI is digital and can support a much higher maximum resolution. I'm rockin' two monitors with with my 550 but I got a VGA to DVI adapter for both.

    Honestly I always say it's better to just buy the parts and make your own custom build. Only real complicated part is the wiring. Mine costed around when I built it $700 and it runs any game I throw on it on high graphics just fine.

    Store-bought, pre-built PCs are one of the last things on Earth I'd ever buy. Right up there with anything from McDonald's and Apple products.

    But since you're moving away from a Mac it would be much easier to buy a pre-built PC. The one you found there seems pretty good. But I would honestly swap out that video card for something more powerful but still affordable. The one it comes with will hold you over until you get the funds.

    I'm sorry if you posted this already but is this a barebones kit? And where are you looking at buying it? The stuff you have listed will run some games but not very well. My advice if you are planning on gaming with it plan for expandibility. I built a new rig a week before this as well as a buddy. He bought from new egg and I bought from tiger direct. Mine is a full tower gaming rig with tons of expandibility and his is a mid with quite a bit too. I spent 800 and he spent 700

    You don't want to spend 500 bucks and in a couple months have to spend a few hundred just to get up to par

    That is completely inaccurate.  That set-up will run EVERYTHING there is right now on max settings and run it JUST FINE.  It could be more bare bones by getting refurbished hardware.  He wanted to stay under $510, I met that criteria AND was under budget AND the computer I laid out will play everything on the current and future market for at least 3 years and play it well too.

    Only an elitist would scoff at that computer.

    I just got that graphics card and a 650W psu. Game runs great now.

    not a bare bones kit would have been nice, but i bundled amd a 10 with simcity game,

    So I have weighed out my options and I have decided for the last time drum roll please :P

    to build my own rig. mid tower still deciding on the case probably kind of but that price down therry gives me room for $65 case more than enough

    AMD A-10

    FM2 A85-XMA-E35

    western digital hard drive

    212 fan

    $631 that is including windows 7. shipping tax.

    This should play anygame I throw at it basically for a few years (hopefully. See where technology takes us)

    on med to high settings.

    Good choice on building.  What gpu are you going with?  Keep in mind that unless you build the best of the best, it isn't going to play everything for the next few years on med to high settings.  It won't even play all current games on mid to high settings.

    For your own sake, ignore Metalpuritan.  A quick google search for reviews of the card he claimed could run anything out there at max settings shows that is clearly not true....GTX 630.  It's a low-end budget card.  It'll barely hit 32 fps running BF3 at low to mid settings.  Nor will his Walmart computers run everything for the next three years, nor will they 'eat the face off the next generation consoles'.  Shoot, we don't even know the specs of the next generation consoles.

    Check out this review, go through the whole thing it's like 19 pages mostly graphs, I think it's a fair assessment of the i3/A-10/A-8/Gtx

    now

    Ge force=$130

    i3=$130                                                                         everything over < = $390+another 50 for 8gb total.

    asus=$40

    corsair=$50          <$50 each so$100 for two of them

    550w atx=40

    I also need to include wind 7, opt drive, wireless which equals= $100

    TOTAL $490        $550

                    ^              ^

                  4GB         8GB

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    I built my PC for under 500, you can get good deals with bundles. Also, I wrote down 2x 4GB :] It straight off my order history so I know the priceI paid  :P

    :ninja:

    Based on my experience, for gaming rigs Intel CPU's are the way to go.

    And for the RAM no need for the faster clock speeds. 1333 or 1600 is fine. You won't feel the difference esp. for a budget build.

    Cool yeah I think I'm going with 1600

    Well the AMD A-10 is an APU integrated with the 7660 HD and I probably wont buy a seprate card. I read somewhere that the impact of another graphics card with this apu is minimal. Besides. I'm tapped out anyways. 630 is enough for me, yeah solid motherboard, solid memory, this comp will be fine, hopefully better than fine. hopefully it's fantastic.

    Thats right we have no idea whats coming next.

    I do have to say that metalpuritan is right you can buy a cheap refurbished computer and do it up with gpu cpu or whatever but, in the end theres no deal out there where they aren't making money.

    Yeah I'm sticking to this AMD A-10 5800K I hope it plays games as well as the reviews say it does.

    in a few years when I build another and I'm ok with that. I hope this lasts longer than that hopefully five years. I know thats a stretch but I take good care of my stuff.

    I'm just going to stick with the AMD A-10 cuz i already bought it. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Running This:

    Brand = ASUS

    Model = CM6870-US-3AB

    Type = Business Desktops & Workstations

    Processor = Intel Core i7-3770 3.4GHz

    Processor Main Features = 64 bit Quad-Core Processor

    Cache Per Processor = 8MB L3 Cache

    Memory = 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

    Hard Drive = 2TB 5400RPM

    Optical Drive 1 = 24x DVD-RW

    Graphics = Intel HD Graphics 4000

    Audio = ALC892 8-channel

    Ethernet = Gigabit Ethernet

    Power Supply = 300W

    Operating System = Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

    Bought it complete from newegg for $650.  I upgraded the Graphics Card to a MSI Radaon 7770 for $100.

    That is nuts. Great buy. They don't have that deal anymore I looked and $700 free shipping is the lowest i7 I saw priced. It didn't have 16gb of memory or a 2 tb harddrive you could fit a school in that thing

    No that is a decent build. You'll be satisfied. I chose expandibility. I didn't buy too end everything but I also got some great deals with everything. And I hate to say it but this year again is when hardware limits will be raised. Especially as new console hardware comes out. There are already some pretty taxing games. Not the ones everyone is listing like borderland 2 and skyrim which have come out some time ago or are completely optimized for a broad range of hardware. But nice job to the op. my main point wa there are some pretty good deals out there for every price range.
