    Kholodno

    Podzemlje Kompleks

    070421elg9.jpg

Podzemlje Kompleks (called "The Hole" by the locals) is actually several huge indoor arenas located underground in abandoned iron mines.

The complex houses a mall, theatre and opera, as well as an ice hockey arena and football stadium.

Any opposing team visiting "The Hole" for the first time is often taken by the claustrophobic feeling of being deep underground.

    Vladiseversk

    070423bsc2.jpg

North-east of Kholodno and just south of the Russian border lies the small mining town Vladiseversk.

The rather isolated little town, surrounded by iron mines, became (in)famous a couple of years ago when information leaked out to foreign news agencies about  the nearby labour camp.

    Belogor

    070430auz7.jpg

Belogor (derived from Belije Gori = White Mountains) is another snow-covered district of the Rodinian north, not far from the Russian border.

The only population in Belogor is the small mining village Podgorje (Pod Goroj = Below the mountain).

    070430bse2.jpg

Podgorje chapel, much older than the village itself, was originally a monastery built as a sanctuary for catholic monks driven out of orthodox Russia.
