Getting rid of Brown Boxes

Question regarding brown box problems with PEG Seasonal Woods v206b.

Just had a problem when I installed these and used them. As soon as I plopped some down, I started getting the brown boxes on my streets. If I bulldozed the street parts that had the boxes, sometime they would disappear, but sometimes another section of street would get a box.

After deleting them from my city and replacing the streets, I was back to normal. Anyone know how to fix it? It is an .exe file and nothing said about any dependencies. It's strange that it would brown box my vanilla maxis streets. Thanks for any help. I tried to go to the PEG website, but it appears to be down.

I don't know what might cause the problem, unless you have another tree mod that gets overwritten by the Seasonal Woods. Even that doesn't sound reasonable. As far as I know there are no dependencey's for the lots.

I guess I'll file it under the "strange stuff that happens to me" category. At least it is a fixable thing, but I really wanted to use those trees. Oh well, thanks for the reply. I do use the "Peg Forest" trees, maybe that is causing the problem. If I find out anything I'll be sure to share it here in case it possibly can help someone in the future.

Check Boggy1's post here for getting rid of brown boxes. Scroll down to the Brown Boxes and Dependencies section.

Edit: After looking at the download, you'll need to get the Maxis Rockefeller Center landmark. You can get it from the official EA site or here. (Scroll down a bit.)

Do you have any downloaded buildings? If some of the brown boxes are from non downloaded buildings then you installed your game incorrectly Try comptley unisntalling the game then reinstall if if thats ths case.

If you do have downloaded buildings and every building that has a brown box is downloaded then you are missing depdencies.

Use the link from the above post to find out about them:

Check Boggy1's post here for getting rid of brown boxes. Scroll down to the Brown Boxes and Dependencies section.quote>

Alrich...

Brown boxes are usually caused by missing what are know as Dependencies. These are other files that are needed by the lot for things to appear on them. Check the download instructions or the Readme file that accompanies the download for the names of those files. You may also need two Bldgprop files if Maxis buildings were used to create the lots. You can check this post for more information.

I tried both files with no other plugins, and they seemed to appear normal. Are you playing SC4 Rush Hour/Deluxe or regular SimCity 4? That may have an effect. Most items on the STEX require Rush Hour/Deluxe.

Ummm... I was responding to your first post. I did not have any problem with the garbage chute or Petronis Tower. There does not seem to be any dependencies. Are you playing SC4 Rush Hour/Deluxe or regular SC4.

Without knowing what files you have, I can only offer this suggestion. Assuming you have NAM, remove all plugins from the Plugins folders except NAM and run the game to see if it works normally. If so, start adding the original plugins one or more at a time to see when the boxes appear. When they do, you'll know which group of plugins has the file that needs the dependency. You can go from there... One note: Do not save any cities while doing this check.

If you mean dependencies for particular downloads, they should be listed in the description or an attached Readme file included in the download. If you mean a list of common dependencies, you can check this list at SC4D (Link). You will need to be registered there to access the links.

Sounds like you might be missing an Essentials file for the item (If I'm understanding you correctly). Do you have a link to the item in question?

If you are looking for a certain download, you might try posting in the Can't Find It? thread (Link).

Do they appear on all bridges (Maxis, additional, road, rail, etc.)? If only certain ones, it might help to let us know...

Hi folks , I am new on the forum ( that doesn"t mean I haven't downloaded almost everything from the STEX/LEX) , and I have got a single (yet really stupid) question (and sorry for my bad english, I'm French):

This is the first time I get Brown Boxes, although I know what dependencies I need and I am currently downloading them. The point is: Will brown boxes disappear once I installed the right dependencies, or will I have to bulldoze/reconstruct ?

They will disappear when the correct models are in the plugins, so you should not need to reconstruct.
