my streetcars are not picking up passengers from certain stops and they are clustering on the busy routes around the train stations where a lot of passengers commute in from nearby cities. I have 2 streetcar depot and 22 streetcars serving about 16 stations. do you think the clustering is due to bugs? or is it just because i dont have enough streetcars? my average wait time is 75 mins! :O 12Sr6mx.jpg

I believe this is one of the issues they're currently working on. In their "Currently in Developement" thread, they posted this among the other fixes:

Transit: Street Cars and Buses go to high volume stops first.

Hopefully this distributes them a bit more evenly.

Not sure. I never usually have to place more than one depot, but given the expanse of your avenues, I would say two depots is probably warranted. In the city I'm playing currently, my streetcar network is essentially just two adjacent rectangles covering about 3/4 of the city. I have one depot (8 cars) and about two dozen stops. I get about 80k riders a day and my average wait time is just over half an hour. So it really varies on the city's layout and demographics.

Do they still clump up like that after a few days? How long have you left them to spread out?

For larger cities its better to have two independent streetcar lines with two separate depots.

I try to run streetcars on a circuit without intersections! Just my approach and it usually works well

Both my buses and streetcars "hunt in packs".  This is a huge problem for traffic.

For buses and streetcars to work properly, you need to have multiple stops with people waiting at them at the same time. Currently the system works but public transport doesnt prioritize the most congested ones. Your initial placement of stops might not be optimal, so you need to plop them and delete them until you get the stop placement right.

Yep.  I've just been trying to space out the stops so the green coverage area covers everything.  By the way, does it matter what side of the street we put the stops on?  Can the sims cross?

Build them in straight parallel lines on your commuting corridors, without crossing them over.

Best methods for streetcars right now until bugs are fixed is have your high density streetcar avenue in a single loop with NO intersections to other Streetcar avenues, the intersections confuse them and they turn around.  A loop like a horse track, the street cars go to every stop. No issues anymore.

The other method is a straight streetcar avenue, from one end of town to the other without connecting to another piece of avenue hence an intersection.

I ended up making 1 gigantic loop that turns, so my horse track looks like a indy 500 race course instead.

Streetcar avenues have to tend to your High Wealth residental, High Wealth Commercial and High wealth industry.

Also noticed putting Streetcar avenues around the outter edges of the city creates more traffic problems. Near the center around the commercial zone is the best.

I also the population drops, my city just seemed to do that, slowly increase and then decrease quite a bit but with only 3-4 buildings going vacant in a day.

Put bus stations on both sides of the road next to each trolley stop, same with Park and Go Lots. Sims are lazy and won't cross the road if a bus stop is on the other side, so place them across from each other on the same road.
