How do I get medium tech industry?

I am trying to build a processor factory but every time I zone industrial all I get is high tech.  What do I do to get medium tech industry?

I think high tech unlocks it too? But a Community College should give you medium tech.

High tech doesn't unlock it.  I had a community college in the middle of my industrial area but I was only getting high tech industry so I bulldozed it. :-/

I am suprised you are not getting it unlocked with high tech.  Probably another bug.

 

But, given what you are experiencing, I assume you placed the university without having gone through a period with the community college first, thus your tech skipped medium.  Tech advances too fast, pretty much instantly and completely, when you place the college or university (causes that annoying low skill issue too).

 

Delete your univeristy, wait for tech to drop in your school tab, then place a college, let the medium tech develop and unlock the processor plant, then place your university again.

 

Edit: you will have to demolish your existing industry after you see your tech level drop, so it rebuilds to the lower tech level, then plop the college and let it develop to medium tech.

You can also get a small amount of medium tech with just the schools (grade and high).  But it takes a very long time (almost an ingame year) to get that to happen. I have noticed though, as stated above, that once you build a university, the tech levels jumps from low to high and misses out medium altogether!

Weird...are you on a region with a Space Center or something maybe? Try zoning some industrial with no education going, should come in low tech, then turn on the CC. That may work. Is there another building going like Vu Tower? That's about all I can think of.

Don't place the community college until after you have quite a lot of factories.

I turned off my university and my tech level went from barely in the third gear to 3/4 of the way in the third gear.  WTF?

Change from university to community college. University gives high tech, while college gives medium.

Turn off the University, bulldoze the factories so their tech level resets.
