As far as I can tell, it's another of those aspects of the game which should work, but don't yet.

Ah, gotchya. Yeah I was trying to make a utility city (at least that was part of its function) but its pretty hard to keep the budget in the green with the kind of stuff I want to do if the city isnt getting paid for its services. Sigh, hopefully they will patch that also....

Yeah, Maxis' to-do list for this game is probably longer than War & Peace by now.

Haha yup. I mean, I definitely see what they were going for and the potential. I just really hope they are going to put the time into it. Of course, they probably shouldnt have released the game for another two months or so, but that probably had more to due with EA I would imagine

If you volunteer Police, you get paid.  I have seen it in the monthly transaction report.  I think it was $100 per (hour/day/month - im not sure).  I  was wondering whether this money and the money for buying energy etc is deducted from the city purchasing the utility.

I have a city with a maxed out third gen nuclear power plant that is providing the power for all of my cities in the region.  That city does recive money from all the other ones in exchange for power.  What I have noticed though, is that the other cities have very large power demands before you start seeing any money coming in.  I wonder if theres a bug that only lets you recieve money after a certain amount of power has been supplied?

If you volunteer garbage, police, fire and health, you get paid for it.

I have 2 cities providing power, 2 providing water and 1 providing sewage.

Sometimes some cities will be payed for what they are selling, and sometimes they will not. Sometimes cities buying will pay for what they are getting sometimes whey will not. And to top it off, cities that are the buyers are paying such small amounts like 1/3 of what it costs to create that power, water or sewage capacity.

Yes, it is spotty.  I have seen payments listed in my Monthly Transactions chart, but not always.  The city selling the utility or service always seems to get the short end of the stick.

On the other hand, supplies from another city are constantly cut off without sufficient warning, leaving other cities scrambling to build its own utilities, usually with inevitable interruptions.

Buying and selling utilities needs a lot of work from Maxis, which is odd given that it is supposed to be one of the main features of region play.
