Wheres Waldo

This game is like the old-school Where's Waldo pictures with a twist.  Instead of finding Waldo in the picture, you score points by answering some questions about the picture.  (It's kinda like ST trivia and Where's Waldo combined).

THE RULES

For every picture, you can score points by determining the continent that it came from, the nation, and the city.  You get bonus points if you can answer all three questions. If someone gives the name of a subdivision of the correct country (state, province, etc.) normal points for the country will be awarded, even if the subdivision of the country is incorrect.  Since some countries don't have states or the equivilent of states, no points are awarded for naming the state, regardless of whether the person has correctly identified the state.  In the event that Waldo should decide to go somewhere that isn't actually a city, points will be awarded when someone correctly identifies the location that Waldo is at.  The scoring pattern is below.

Continent = 10 Points

Nation = 20 Points

City = 30 Points

Bonus for all three = additional 40 Points

If there is an error with score-keeping, or incorrect answers to questions being awarded points, I will fix the problem to keep things fair.

SPECIAL RULES FOR LANDMARKS

Landmarks have the ability to make extra bonus points if you can answer the trivia question(s) that go along with the picture.  Bonus points will be assigned points values per question and the value will reflect the difficulty of the question.  The normal rules for guessing the location in the picture still apply.

A new picture will be uploaded when everything is answered about the previous location.

With that said, here is the first location.

Landmark Trivia Questions:

Questions 1 & 3 are worth one point.  Question 2 is five points.  Question 4 is worth ten points.

  1. What position does the public consider it hold on the Wonders of the World list?
  2. What did it have that no other sporting arena ever had?
  3. What modern field product was a result of its construction?
  4. What was special about the actual groundbreaking in the groundbreaking ceremony?

    I'll try to get a bigger picture next time, but this was the biggest one that I could get to load (my internet acts funny sometimes).

    Duke87 gets the full 10 points for location and a bonus point for identifying that Astroturf was developed for this stadium.

    Official Score:

    Duke87 = 11 Points

    Shouldn't Duke87 have 100pts and not 11.

    Continent = 10 Points

    Nation = 20 Points

    City = 30 Points

    Bonus for all three = additional 40 Points

    I'm gonna assume that the Astrodome is considered the 8th Wonder of the World.  It was the first sports stadium, baseball specifically, that had a roof on it.

    BTW, Duke, you stole my other question.11.gif I was gonna make a lot of points on those.11.gif

    hym:  The Astrodome was considered to be the 8th Wonder of the World when it was constructed.  However, it was not the first sports stadium to have a roof.  The Romans did it first with the Coliseum.

    Hym gets ten points for Question 4.

    As for Question 2--Anything to do with the roof (or skylights) is not what I'm looking for, since the Romans put a roof on the Coliseum.

    Official Score:

    Duke87 = 101 Points
    Hym = 11 Points

    PS -- I now know why I gave 11 Points to Duke87.  I was being prophetic, I just had the wrong person.6.gif

    Is it North America, Alaska, (City goes here)?

    I believe that is the famous Alaskan Pipeline? Oil, I suppose.

    Slowhand: 10 Points for the continent and 20 Points for the country (although it's not in Alaska).

    DuskTrooper: 30 Points for correctly identifying the place (although it technically isn't in a city).

    Since this previous picture brought up a couple of things that I didn't orginally think of when I wrote the rules, I am going to add to them.

    If you name a subdivision of the correct country (state, province, etc.) I will give you the points for the country.

    If the location pictured is not actually part of a city, then you will get the points for the city if you can name the location (as what happened with this last location).

    Official Scores:

    Duke87 = 101 Points
    Hym = 16 Points
    Slowhand = 30 Points
    DuskTrooper = 30 Points

    Sorry that I couldn't get a bigger picture, but this was the best one IMO.

    First off, it is the Great Wall of China, located in China, Asia.

    It was built by Qin Shi Huangdi (Ch'in dynasty) over 2,000 years ago.

    The wall is over 6,400 Kilometers long (originally over 5,000km and during the Ming Dynasty, it was expanded to its present 6,400 km length).

    The wall is visible from earth's orbit (i.e. out in space orbiting earth) but not from the moon.

    My official answers to the above questions are in bold.

    The wall was first constructed from the Shanai Pass (in the east) to Lop Nur, (in the souteastern part of the Xinjiang Uygar Region).

    quote>
    That covers the whole length of the wall.  I want to know the general section of the country that it started in.  I'll give everybody a hint--the section is in the following list

    • North
    • South
    • East
    • West
    • Central
    Good Luck!

    Western (to keep the Huns out) and it's just an urban myth that it can been seen from the moon.  As seen in the picture, the wall tends to be about half the width of a regular suburban street.  Now, it'd be a pretty long street, but from the moon, the continents are barely discernable.

    Duke87 is correct.  The Great Wall of China was orginally begun as a three state project and the emporer decided to expand it.

    Since everybody had a hard time guessing where Waldo was when he went to Cape Hope, I'll give you a few hints:
    • Waldo is on a brand new continent
    • He is in a prominent country
    • In a prominent city

    Good Luck!10.gif
