replacing the movie

Hey guys, does anybody know the type of movie file the oepning movie in SC4 is? and also, which file is it? We would like to replace it with a cool one for SimMars.

Not sure what format, as it is generated to code. Called Intro DAT file= 2,1,Intro.dat. replacing it would mean converting your MOV. file to data.

Okay, I know nothing really. I am just hoping someone knowledgable, will pick up on this thread.

After looking through a couple of Google hits, I doubt we can do anything with these files, since they are proprietary. The only thing that can be replaced is the startup screen, since it's an ordinary PNG file.

well i guess the only way we could modify

the games video is if we had a video recording

editing program that could use the MAD file type,

and i don't think it's availible to the public.

the startup screen is in since i wanted to mess

with it a bit but i forgot which one it's in.

As far as I've seen, it's also in the intro.dat. There are also various [language]_RH_SplashScreen.dat files in the appropriate language subfolders, which override the one from the intro.dat, depending on your language selection.

A long time ago, I tried to do this... We never did decode MAD.

However, Builderman made a DLL plugin that allows SC4 to play AVI movies, so you could insert an AVI into a DAT, give it the proper IID, and then let it rip.

I dunno if you want to start doing DLL modding with SimMars, though...

I'm not sure if you would want to do this but you can disable the start-up video by typing in the intro off thingy command line in after the target folder line in the properties of a SC4 shortcut and then just edit the PNG file and put SimMars there. But if you want the video in there, then I can't help you.
