How to Obliterate a City

In Simcity 4, this option was there. In Simcity, I can't find it anywhere. Can you obliterate cities? I want my brother's abandoned city to stop creating pollution, and stop wasting space. Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, no real way to do that.  You have to 1. be the person that created the city (or reclaim it if it was abandoned) and then 2. go in there and manually bulldoze everything.  You are going to want to make sure any bonds are paid off so you don't go bankrupt from the interest and you may want to plant forests in any areas with remaining ground pollution and let it run for a while.

I wonder if they will institute a set of criteria where cities will be deleted by EA/Maxis.  For example:

 

If all of the following:

1.): Player hasn't been to the city in X amount of time

2.): City is in the "death pause"

3.): Criterion C

4.): Criterion D

etc., the city is deleted.

 

Perhaps every 30 days IRL these cities are deleted?

Instead of bulldozing you could just unlock some lovely disasters and let that take care of the mess.
