Residential - I can never meet demand.

I've built a handful of cities and I can never seem to meet residential demand.  I've become very good at perfect blocks - making sure that each area will be suited for the highest density buildings and I've done well at making sure they packed the people in.  No matter the layout, I am always short residential.  I also can't run a city without a deficit if I want any sort of specialization.

Any tips on how to help with those two problems? Sorry if this is posted somewhere else, I didn't find anything in the search.

Thanks

I have the same issue also. Though my deficit is -18,000 a hour but I bring in 250k a month.

I don't think the game recognizes specialization as a hourly rate. And also the game is so lagged your residents could be happy but the servers didn't update it yet.

Just ignore it. Unless your businesses/factories are closing due to lack of shoppers/workers, there really isn't an issue.

It's because the population display is deceptive. There's strong evidence the game puts in phantom population, agents that don't really do anything but add to the total population count. It explains why people get need more workers message and why such a small percentage of the population works. The truth about population.
