Whats wrong with Power/water distribution?

I am losing all patience with this game, built another city up to 100 + K people, now, over and over some buildings constantly say they have no water and power.....Despite me having double the capacity needed, it's like it cannot find it's way to all buildings. I even built new plants right next to buildings in question, but it keeps happening over and over. Same happens with water.  What is going on here is it another example of bad pathfinding?

Don't you know that water and especially electricity move around in blobs that randomly take turns at intersections?

I guess it's sit back and wait for them to fix the game............

There is no reason for this what so ever, in real life power moves at the speed of light and is the same strength across the whole network, so there is no reason to use agents to simulate it, an equation represents reality better in all cases. (Power created-Power used= Surplus or deficit).

Water is not quite as simple but still as long as there is a surplus all areas should be fine, so why not save the computing power for an area where individual agents actually might simulate the world better (like traffic) rather than using them in areas where they can literally never simulate the world better than a simple equation??

Sorry but electricity does not go at the speed of light. Only photons  can go at the speed of light.

In real life you also do not get electricity instantly accross a whole city. This simply would not work.

    Regarding the initial problem:

have you had a look at the water and leccy overlay to see where or what is stopping it? also are you importing utilities from another city to give you 0 overhead?

You're going into a very strange realm by asking this question. When you say "electricity" are you referring to AC or DC? Do you mean current, voltage or electrical energy? These are all important if you want to talk about electrical "speed".

Current, in simple terms, can be thought of as a flow of electrons (charges, more accurately) within a conductor. In a DC circuit, these charges move VERY slowly in one direction. About as slowly as warm putty, or a few inches per hour. In an AC circuit the charges just wiggle back and fourth and don't really go anywhere.

Voltage can be thought of as the magnetic field surrounding the conductor. Think of an electromagnet. This magnetic field can build up and collapse at the speed of light, but only at right angles to the wire, so it doesn't really go anywhere at all. In a DC circuit, the magnetic field builds up and then just sits there. In an AC circuit, the magnetic field builds up and then collapses and builds up again 50 or 60 times per second, but again, doesn't really go anywhere.

Electrical energy travels throughout a circuit at the speed of light and is propagated by the voltage, believe it or not.

It's important to note that in an electrical circuit, there is no starting point and there is no ending point when it comes to the energy transmitted. In other words, the energy doesn't come from one spot only to flow to another along a single path. Think of it like a belt connected to pulleys. If you move any part of the belt, the whole thing moves all at the same time. Electrical circuits are the same.

I've had this problem too. They need to add something into the power/water agents to force them to flow toward areas where the supply of the utility is less, instead of randomly going around the block in places where they are not needed.

I have even resorted to buying lots of both even though I didn't need it, still nothing works,, fail. The more I play the more major issues with the game rear their head.

You may have a road that is no longer hooked up or you may be buying power from another city that is intermittent.  It could also be city growth.

Are you using wind power?  I have heard that wind power is intermittent.  Try coal or oil.

I've got many cities with 200k+ population and a couple with 300k+ population with no power problems.  It has to do with your design.  There is no "bug" with power distribution.

The invention of beer and the wheel were the foundation of modern civilization & together were the catalyst that split humanity into two distinct subgroups: liberals & conservatives. Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. These men were called "conservatives". Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's & doing the sewing, fetching & hair dressing. They were called "progressives".

There is because you never experienced it doesnt make it so, i did everything you said and more before posting, and no there is no roads disconnected, sometimes its different buildings. There is nothing wrong with my  design you cannot see my it so that is one ignorant statement.  The simulation literally gets stuck in certain path's and won't move for awhile keeps going in circles with my water and power.  I've already had coal, even nuclear powerplants, nothing works, even right next to the buildings, how is that design? Clueless.

If it were a road not connected (Whcih it isn't I would have checked that fool) it would not be intermittent, it seems to fix itself but thet fails again, if you read my post you'd see ti has nothing to do with growth, I had 5 times the power I needed at one point, it simply was too stupid to get to all buildings.

I've seen you defending this game even legit issues all over the ea forums, sorry if I don't take anything you say seriously.

Yep I follow the grid and they simply have horrid pathfinding, sometimes it gets to where it needs to problem goes away but then it gets lost and happens again.

This game is not mean to simulate real life. It has it's own style, and part of that style is the way water / power works. I've had 5 cities now, no issues with either power or water with 200k+ population. If you notice you're having a power / water problem turn on the layer for it and wait until it fills out. If a certain building is having a problem, delete it.

Yea, that's just terrible, my liking the game and all.  How I like to learn all the tricks involved in making a city.  How I like learning about productions lines, how power works, etc...

    Just terrible!

LEarning? LMAo the game isn't hard, and I never said anything about liking it, defending it no matter how truthfull some of these issues are.....

Obviously you never even read the thread, Did that there is nothing wrong with the layout, it works sometimes, then breaks then works again, you can even follow the path it gets stuck on an intersection, but eventually moves again. Delete said intersection, happens on another, it's terible pathfinding, and others had the same issue. The old "Im the only one who knows how to play: strawman argument is baselsss. It's the game. This game needs a lot of patches, the issues are well documented, but your the only one who knows how to play right? This game is very easy, problem many things are bugged, the developer list on reddit is enormous.

I had 3 cities before this one to...bugs do not happen everytime to everyone, something obviously triggers it, many bugs are like this, if you worked in IT or played games regularily you would know this.

I've experienced this problem once and I've fixed it by doing a similar fix that I did with sewage.  I'm big into mining/oil and refineries and they produce a lot of sewage that comes out in huge blobs and will back up even a fully loaded sewage treatment station if it all comes from the same direction.  My fix to this was to put two lower capacity stations with road hook ups coming from different directions so that the sewage is forced to kind of half itself as to not overload either station.

I then did this same thing with water - refineries use a lot of water so having two water pumps and roads supplying water to two ends of my city works well.  Even though they are both lower capacity pumps, their distribution is better.

Power on the other hand is different - I found that the original power problem that happened in every sim city still happens with this one when you load the game.  As long as I'm not using wind power, my city is fine with only one entrance to the city.  Wind power is too shaky in a normal flat city.  I've had success with wind in a city that had a large hill in the middle because the wind speed was 20mph - and it was terribly expensive to run because the output just isn't enough for the amount of space it has to take up.

Anyway, possibly try my above suggestion for distribution.  I don't think you'll have a problem.

I was just about to suggest the same thing.   While I've never had a problem with a bulding cutting out of power when power is available, I have seen sewer getting backed up while I had capacity.    In this situation where the sewer was being backed up, the plant was placed at the end of a road so all the sewage ened up running down a single road.  The road couldn't handle all the sewage.  Adding a second plant ended up resolving the issue so flow could be divirted to multiple locations.   I'm wondering if power is limited the same way, in that you can only send so much power down a single road.

I've had this problem too and kept adding water and power plants until it bankrupted me, but to no avail. The buildings KEPT saying they had no water or power.

I find that the water table is drained easily.

I've read that the water table can be replenished by rain but this is a slow process and from what I can tell is bugged.  I've also read that placing forrests over the area helps with the replenishment process but it's a fairly slow process.

I have a problem with a city that has barely any water, but i do want to run a couple of coal mines there, and they are thirsty... so i import from a city that makes so much there is a 100K available for the region.... now by buying the water my deficit does go to ZERO (no matter of how many shafts i add) but the coal mines dont actually start up, they get water, but they never seem to "fill up".

So as it stands I cant run mines without a huge surplus of water inside the city. Highly annoying. Am I doing something wrong? I wish I could decide MYSELF how much water I buy from another city, instead of letting demand rule how much is bought.
