Building University Enrollment

I have had my university for several days (real time, not Sims time) and it seems that it is stuck at 1500-1600.  I was able to bump it up from around 1100 by demolishing my community college.  If I demolish my grade schools and high school, will it increase my university population?

Does anyone have any other hints to increase university population?

Thanks!

Students will go to any school to get the benifts so you can just have the university.  In my city i use a university and a community college for greater coverage for my sims.  However when i want to level my university up I turn of my comunity college.

Turning off is a good idea... I am an impatient person and would have just demolished.  I will try turning the lower schools off and see what I get.  (If I can get back to my city, it hasn't loaded for the past two hours ::sigh::)

    Thanks!

My city has been "unable to load" for 14 hours now.  As soon as I get back in, I will give an update.

Well , my city is still "unable to load"...so I started a new one. I plopped an elementary and a university early. When the university population stopped growing, I turned the elementary off and my university has flourished since. I bulldozed the elementary and since I have been running the univ. only; I basically went to medium and high wealth in like 90% of all of my zones before my pop even hit 25K.

You have to provide public transportation to the university, otherwise only Sims in a 2 block radius will walk to the college.  So make sure you have all residential around the university.

It's better to place your university in the centre of your industrial zone so that the factories' tech level increases. Placing school bus stops in your residential areas will get your sims to university just fine. Residential and commercial zones don't benefit from proximity to the university, whereas industrial zones benefit immensely.

Schoobus stops work too? Wow. I demolished all of my schoolbus stops to save a penny, but now that my income is back up, I guess I'll add them back. I assumed university students didn't take the yellow dog, but now it makes sense since most of my residents on the other side of the river (literally) are uneducated. I'll add them back because I'd really like to upgrade my university and research a solar farm.
