Absolutely NOBODY attends High School

My city is geared more towards education. Currently, I only have a grade school, a library and a high school though. The grade school is absolutely full up, but the high school has room for 1800 students, but absolutely nobody attends, not one student. Is this a bug?

If it works at all like SimCity 4 did, then you simply don't have high school age students living in your city.  If you wait a few years for your elementary school kids to grow up, then the high school will be full.  Your city's education needs will change as the average age of your population does, and it should change in cycles (they get older and older, then suddenly it drops as that generation dies off and a new baby boom happens).

That's all speculation though;  I don't have the game.  I'm just assuming it handles age like in SC4 and in real life.

I had the same problem with my High School maybe it’s a glitch as Students were
clearing go in, but maybe the counter was not working like it Did For Primary Schools?
My technical college had students…Do not have any other universities etc.

you might have moused over the school at the wrong time. IF it is after school hours, it will say teaching 0 students. also you might need to place bus stops if you havent already, because apparently no one can go to school without school bus stops. if you already have done all these, then there is a bug.

my high school works fine for me.

I thought the same at one time that no one goes to my schools, but its true, if you want new students in elementary schools, you have to have some new homes and families move in the area, otherwise a bunch of old folks wont take to kindly to being told to go back to skool.   then as the above posted, as the children age, the start attending high school. Eventually you'll need colleges , libraries and such to keep them "heads swelling" as the game says.

You can check your population stats to see the amount of people attending school. It should show if you have people who can go to school but aren't for whatever reason. You can also switch on your data layer for education, if you see the purple icons for buildings not able to attend school they may possibly be glitching or a bus stop is not being picked up or something along those lines. I had 3 buildings where they couldn't go to school for some odd reason, I just deleted them and new ones got built that worked fine.

is it true that if you have University then you would not need the grade school anymore? And how to upgrade my industries to high tech?

High school replaces elementary school. The reason why you didnt have anyone going into high school was that your elementary was "eating" all your students. I don't think that theres some age of sims in simcity. If you build house, it will produce some workers, shoppers and students and this number stays same forever, only when increasing density it will rise.

It would make a lot more logical sense if you had to fill up a grade school before HS, and a HS before a college.

You can plop a high school before a grade school and you'll get students, it really doesn't matter. But, the higher the education like colleges, libraries, and things like that eaventually produce $$$ population. I managed to get my low wealth and low industry/commercial effect I wanted for so many  years so to "historicize" some communities by only plopping one or two elementary schools, and nothing else. keeping the citizens "dumb"  lol

There's another thread that's talking about this subject right now:

There's also suggestions that all education buildings supersede the one before it. Thus an University is the only building you need once you have it unlocked.

High school population is related to bus stop , you will need to have bus stop to pick up students, if you read the info related to high school, you will see that students use the bus stop to go school.

i had the same problem and solved in this way.

hope this will help

It sure does.  I have tested that and high school sho nuff' superseded the need for elementary school.   Haven't tested the bus top/high school let but going to go "Mayor me some Peyton Place" and "Stepford island" right now and give'er a swirl

I still don't see why kids can't use the normal buses to get to their schools, why they need special school buses.

Huh? You think kids should take municipal buses?

In my experience a city as XX amount of students, they will go to whatever school they can. If you have way more school desks than students, you should disable or demolish the lowest grade school. Community college/uneversity does not use school buses.
