Why do people love to play this game at 2x and mostly on 3x speed? I play only at 1x because I can enjoy every development, every change and micromanage every singe house, shop, street.

What do you have to say about your games speed?

The problem with staying at Turtle speed is that there are certain stages of the game where it's not a good idea to micromanage.  When the game first starts, and you're placing the initial tiles, your hourly income will be so low that you'll have to wait a while just to accumulate enough money to do anything.  Once you've spent the initial 50k, switching to a higher speed helps there; with every building being low-density, low-wealth, there's not a whole lot you can do to micromanage the systems for better performance, and until enough people have moved in to give you a few thousand an hour in income you won't be buying much of anything.  Similarly, there will be times in the mid-game where you're saving up for a major purchase (a recycling center, a university, a nuclear plant, any culture building or casino) but your 4-5k/hr income isn't enough to do so in a reasonable timeframe.  When you're having to spend 100k+ to buy the basic building (let alone "necessary" modules), you're not going to want to sit there and watch the game go at a slow pace.  (For one thing, the temptation to DO something will be intense enough that you'll have a hard time saving up the amount needed.)

Now, I'm not upset they disabled Cheetah speed, because that was just TOO fast.  Your city would go negative on power, and by the time you noticed, half of your city had blacked out (including essentials like a waste treatment facility).  So I stay on Llama most of the time, switching to Turtle when I want to place something.  But Turtle's just too slow for many situations, IMO.

It depends on what I'm doing. If the city is new, I like going in close and seeing what the sims are doing, watching them move in, seeing what buildings are popping up.

But then after a while the speed picks up while I manage the bigger city.

You always play at turtle speed? I could not do that. Too much waiting for me.

Several times I slow it down to turtle speed to enjoy my city in the ways you cited, but typically I play on llama.

My ratio is probably 55% llama, 40% turtle, 5% cheetah

Yeah, your right, I do tinker with it to much sometimes while also waiting for something like $100k to pile up. Then I end up waiting some more... and tinkering some more :)

Played today with another person on a 3 city region, he had 100k people before I got up to 15k! That is the need for speed! Playing on different speeds in the same region with someone can really be a problem in multiplayer with strangers. The utilites and upgrades can speed past you quickly.

How where your experiences in multiplayer? Did you run into a turtle like me?

Well, in all games I play with speeds, I increase the speed when things are in a near equilibrium and money is coming in. In the Sims, I often play in the slowest speed. SimCity is different and I am miffed that they got rid of cheetah speed. I won't play the game until it has all the removed features added back in that I want.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Thus far I have only been playing with myself. I created a public region but no one has yet to join.

I am far too paranoid to join a random region though. I don't want to fall victim to griefers.

I would expect that your cities are more well planned and aesthetically pleasing though.

I mix it up like most everyone else. I do play at the 1x speed a lot when I just want to kick back and watch (like watching a house burn right across the street from a fire station w/max trucks just sitting there). I've been finding I play at faster speeds once I max out my planning space, which is far too small IMHO.

When the patch limited speed to Llama I was a bit annoyed because I tend to speed through things at times but I have to say I enjoyed the slow down, the game works better that way. I do like to speed it up and slow it down but I think generally playing at Llama speed works great.
