I'm reasonably confident that Amazon got the release date wrong but I just got an e-mail from them showing that "This item will be available to download on March 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM (US/Pacific)"

Amazon, and supposedly Origin will allow users to pre-load the game on 1st March.

I hope so, I don't want to have a launch day nightmare.

From the Amazon page:

" Note: because the game will be available to start loading, this page will say "Available Now" starting March 1, 2013. Please keep in mind the game will not be playable until March 5, 2013 once Electronic Arts turns on the game servers. The The bonus content will be delivered upon release of the game."

OK, that makes sense. Didn't think I'd actually be able to play that early.

I ordered the disk version because of the $20 Amazon credit, that one says 3/5.  BTW, any one know if I should expect DVD's? I'd prefer Blu Ray but didn't see an option when ordering

I was looking into pre-ordering for that same Amazon promo.  It is disk only so does that mean you won't be able to download 3/1 but instead wait for the disk to arrive after it is hopfully sent 3/5?

I'd almost guarantee the physical media is going to be DVD. If the game will fit on a DVD what's the advantage of putting it on a Blueray? Why limit your customer base if there is no advantage to be had

I'm pretty sure we'll still be able to download through Origin, but not until we get the disk/key delivered. However when I preordered through Amazon they guaranteed delivery on 3/5.

It's March 1st.  I pre-ordered through Origin, and I don't see an option to download ("start loading") the game.  Anyone know how to do this?

That was only Amazon (regarding March 1) as far as I know, and Amazon changed their wording to now say: "Note: this game will not be available for pre-load prior to launch." (With no date.)

I don't think Origin ever claimed March 1 in the first place.

It's actually a smart move. Pre-load the game sooner and save EA's servers the strain on release day.

Yea it would have been a good idea. Too bad they have decided to wait until release date now.

Thank you for the info!  It really would have been nice to be able to download the game in advance.  I'm sure that launch day will take some extra time.  12GB is no small file!

It's a bummer that we won't be able to preload. I suppose this is what Wednesday's "stress test" was all about in Beta 3 -- to see how well their servers could (or could not) handle X number of players all downloading from EA all at once, in the same way we'll likely all be downloading at 12:01am ET on March 5th.

Disappointing that this could have been done so much better and yet we're going to be crankily waiting to process a large file instead of getting started on our cities.

Is the game available for download via Origin at 12:01am on 3/5? Is that how it works? I've never downloaded a game on release day.

    Just got following from Amazon

    Hello,

We're contacting you about your order for "Origin SimCity." We recently learned that, due to a technical issue, Origin SimCity will no longer pre-load on 3/1/2013. Instead, the game will launch with no pre-load on 3/5/2013. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Kip was asked this in the letsallbemayor stream event thing and he didnt know if that would be the case but i believe this has been the case with origin before so I hope so!

Given the change to the Amazon orders (of which I'm not one -- I got my DDE pre-order at Origin) and given that March 2nd is almost over and my SimCity in Origin has yet to start downloading, I can only assume there's no days-before preload.

Since Kip didn't even know, I can't imagine there's one planned. There's been zero indication from what I can tell. The date I'd heard bandied about was March 1, which has come and gone, I'm not optimistic. I suppose it's possible that we'll get a couple of hours on Monday the 4th to start preloading before 12:01AM ET on the 5th, but again, since Beta 3 had so much emphasis on "stress testing" the servers... I'd say that all signs point to no preload.

Apologies if my first post sounded official at all. I basically took the fact that Amazon had changed their preload promise to mean that Origin wasn't going to allow it. I don't have confirmation either way, but still don't think it looks all that good. :/

As per this thread on Reddit, many pre-orders have been stealth cancelled by Amazon without notice (including mine). These are not just for the "cagrocks" code either.

If you have a pre-order with them, it would be wise to check it to make sure it's still there.

    Mine is fine.

Amazon is giving credit to those who were canceled.

Also some have started to get their codes and can pre0load them on Origin.

I pre-ordered it with amazon, and it's not...  and they will not honor the price I previously ordered it for...  I'm very tempted to order it from origin now...

So is it safe to order on amazon? Will they give me a code to get it through origin?
