Help Wanted to Change Station Capacity

Hello. I want to change the capacity of a passenger train station. After opening, the station went way beyond its capacity in sim days. I is located in an industrial district that is still developing and I have yet to plop that monsterous VM Motors Factory right next to it. The neighborhoods that it serves is still growing too. I also have the main regional trunk connected to the adjacent city where I expect even more sims to ride in to this area.

The station in question was chosen as the perfect fitting terminal station after test plopping many station canidates so I really want to stick with this one for this particular area. The capacity is 20,000 as it stands right now, I want to bump it up to at least 50,000.

I do have Ilives Reader but get confused and give up after a while. I feel now I have to learn it to get more out of enjoying my experience with SC4 and stop complaining about lacking parameters of contents. I do have the beginners guide but still having trouble finding my way to the simplest of tasks (navigate to what?) like this one I'm asking help for. When I open up the reader, what is the first thing I must do to get to the station files?

The station I feel the need to change now is London Kings Cross.

To change the capacity of the station to about 50,000 passagers is not hard at all you will need to download the Iives Reader an sc4 devotion, the link will be below. In the Iives Reader you will need to open up one of the files have holds the capacity properties, if you find the desc and the Lot. file try those. When your there look for the property Transit Switch Traffic Capacity double click it and change it to 50000, and apply and save the file. :D

Thanks for your help Aaron! Where I get confused in the reader is how to find the files (please excuse my ignorance). I tried going to file>open and located the files for the station. But when I click 'open' nothing happens. Searching any other way I keep running into the Maxis transit files. What am I missing?

After you open the selected file, you will need to click the button on the right hand side that says 'Fill the list'

DUH!!! Thank You Very Much! I got it now and I think I'm on my way.

Ok, I located the SC4desc file. After changing the value I hit apply, save the file from reader and it asks if I want to overwrite. I click yes. But in game, the station is still saying 20,000 capacity. I even went back into Reader and opened the same file again and it is still saying 50,000 in Reader. I am definitely missing a step. I tried bulldozing and plopping a new one and it is still 20,000 in game.

Hmm... that is strange.  Do you have more than one copy of that file in your plugins?

Also, before you save, you should always:

    1) go to 'Sub Files' and select 'ReIndex'

    2) go back to 'Sub Files' and select 'Rebuild Directory file'

    Then you can save.

The UI file and Description may just have that 20,000 set as a static value. As long as it says 50,000 in Reader, you should be fine.

I did something wrong and I think the Sims called for my impeachment. See my new thread in the technical issues section. It's directly related to my activities here. Big lesson......I Must Remember To Back Up My Cities Before Modding!

I meant to ask about this yesterday. Those Sub File areas are greyed out when I go there. Can you explain that process and why you do it?

Good news! I'm back in my city.  :D  I'm guessing all modders had a hard lesson to learn at some point. It's called paying your dues.

Oh yeah, that that's just a little glich in the program. Just be sure to click in the white area where your files are listed - then you should be able to select them (you will have to re-click in the white area after 'reindexing' as well)

As for why... well I assume it just cleans up the .dat file before saving, but I learned this from Paeng and I figure he knows what he's talking about :)

Glad to hear you have everything back up and running :)

    2) go back to 'Sub Files' and select 'Rebuild Directory file'

    Then you can save.

These are done automatically when you save the file, so doing them right before a save is redundant.  You might want to choose "Reindex" if you've made changes in the file and want to see the correct index before continuing to modify it.  Similarly, if some of your changes have caused the subfiles to appear incorrect (e.g., some are missing or there are other problems),  choosing "Rebuild Directory file" may help.

You can easily see that this is an optional step, though.  Delete the DIR subfile and then immediately save your file.  Reload it, and you'll find that the DIR subfile is back, good as new.

The one change that is mandatory wasn't mentioned.  If you're editing a LotConfigurations exemplar and add or subtract a LotConfigPropertyLotObjectData property so that the numbering of these properties is no longer continuous, you must right click in that window and choose "Reindex LotConfig" before you save the file.  Otherwise, the numbering of these properties will remain incorrect, and your lot is unlikely to work properly.
