How about this: an old looking castle has the next two blocks in all directions around it looking like really old buildings from medieval times.

Oh yes, medieval style would be cool. So would "colonial" style, "Gotham Style" (or rather Gothic Revival/Neo-Gothic), Chinatown style (which is somewhat different from true Chinese, Korean, or Japanese style), or Tropical style.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

It is cute but not my thing. I hope that other landmarks can be made that make other styles of buildings grow. Maybe have a landmark from the 1860-1900 time period of Chicago to have a chicago 1880 style with a ton of pink bricks (instead of orange) and other stuff. Maybe have the Chrysler building make your city look like NYC in the 1920s?

I would love to see this. If they did it right (I also agree that these landmarks and styles are currently more cute than realistic) it could look really awesome and really define your city.

I've never really been into the "themed" sets, like Europe or mars or whatever..

Just give me 21st century western buildings please :)

(Kinda wish Maxis spent more time on the game and less time on the DLC...and the game isn't even out yet!)

A full-scale castle would take like a half of that town's space.

Nobody mentioned a potential Steampunk DLC. Make your cities look like Victorian England, but with smoky factories and everything full of mechanical cogs and airships.

I just wish they would toss in some Canadian Landmarks.

Canadians have landmarks?

:D

SC3k and SC4 have the CN Tower (as well as the re-release of SC2k).

CN tower(Toronto), peace tower and parliament (Ottawa) Saint Joseph's Oratory (Montréal) Chateau Frontenac would all be really great landmarks for simcity. The last two would work really well in the French tile set

Also EA canceled all the extra expansion packs that Maxis had planned for Simcity 4 due to low sales of Rush Hour.

What were the other planned expansion packs for SC4?

We don't know.

Will Wright had promised us more expansion packs were planned and on the way.

He then a few years later said they had been canned due to low sales of Rush Hour.

I love the fact they couldn't even be arsed to get the cars to drive on the left in the British set.

I'll still be buying the game - but no way am I spending all that extra cash on a few pretty buildings!

Meh I only like the German set and the high speed rail.

I'll by the upgrade pack for $20 later down the line (yes you can buy this as an expansion pack).

I didn't realise you could do that. I think I'll do that too.

It is only available thru the Origin Store.

@Charizard

Development costs have been double and tripling the past 6 years.

Development costs are expected to double again within the next 5 years, due to the demand for better graphics.

Thus you either need to sell more copies and/or raise prices to breakeven.

$70 and $80 dollar games could become the new norms.

I understand that and inflation plays a role too. But the game isn't worth that much money to me. Like I said if the game was like its predecessors then I would gladly pay $80 to help support the devs. But EA has refused to listen to the fans in order to appease the casual/multiplayer crowd and as a result they won't be getting my money.

I beg to differ.

Seriously this game is more "hardcore" than the previous Simcity titles, due to the DLC, multiplayer, acheivements etc...

You really need to learn what a "casual" gamer is.

Are you serious? How does DLC, multiplayer, or achievements make this game more hardcore?

Who other than hardcore gamers would spend almost $100 on a video game?! My wife is what I consider a casual gamer, logs on to words with friends plays the free version of zynga games... But would never ever spend a dime on them because in her opinion "only a loser would spend money on a video game."

OMG... can you guys imagine what the others could be done with that game? Probably the whole simtropolis community would be different today. o-o

Yessir.

BUT when people talk about european sets for the SC games it generally means the old 3-4 story high row buildings, or the Eiffel tower, stuff like that. Which I'm not picking on Europe,.. their towns and cities are much older so its part of the architecture, but I prefer the newer building sets that you normally find here in the NA.

No offence meant (and none should have been taken)
