Sim City 4 Windows 8

Hey guys, has anyone successfully played SC 4 on Windows 8? I know it was made for XP, so I'll most likely have to find a work around for a little bit, and if that's the case than no worries. I installed it on a whim but it looks like the base textures are missing (I don't know how to describe it). For example, the grass is missing around both maxis lots and the ones I downloaded from here, and I am unable to drag items through lots (so I cant drag train tracks through train stations, for example).

I have Windows 8, and SC4 installed.

It's through Steam though.

Haven't played that much, because i lost all my plugins so its Vanilla, and lets admit it, that's just not that fun.

No problems running it though, and no texture problems which i've noticed.

After a fresh install and/or patch update you'll need to update the graphics settings. Make sure settings for textures is on high.

I don't know what all the fuss is about Windows 8. It is just NT6.2 with a new desktop.

It is a fresh install, but I never checked the graphics settings. I'm a little embarrassed actually, that's a $%&^! mistake. And yeah, windows 8 is, I don't know. Its optimized for tablets and since I don't have it on a tablet its annoying. It came with the laptop I bought (since I'm a teacher and don't have a computer in my classroom or my office so I needed one on the cheap) so I've got to live with it

Well, as one educator to another, I hope you got it working now. Y'know, if you have the disks for Windows 7 you could load it up, but if you can live with 8, I wouldn't bother. Besides, your students would think you were reactionary.

When I was teaching, the college supplied me with a laptop. It was a real old blunderbuss, but it was in the 2000s.

Thanks, I got it working. It seemed that when I did a fresh install, none of the graphics options within sc4 had had their radio button selected to high, medium or low Anyways thanks for the help everybody. And yes, back when I was working tech support at the university I went to, we gave all our profs laptops. 3 years old and dells so middle of the road at best, but whatevs. I'm working for the Minneapolis School District and they're kind of underfunded across the board, plus the school I work at is inner city and all special ed which puts us at the bottom of the list for resources (which makes absolutely no sense) being a first year teacher doesn't help much either

You have my deepest sympathy. I think your board of ed. needs a kick in the gonads if they don't really fund the daylights out of special ed. and inner city schools. This is usually where the bright kids can be developed as a way to get out of there.

All other web sites load and display rather quickly on my HP desktop but Simtropolis.  .  I still have a post trying to save that has been saving over 3 minutes.  that's not normal.

I see thie "green" processing graphic at the top and hit hangs there longer than it should.  is anyone else having any problems  navigating and saving posts on Simtropolis.com using Windows 8 and IE10?

I have all the updates installed (I don't let the system auto update, instead, I get the notification and update manually).

This actually belongs here.  There is a Maintenance/Performance thread there that may answer your questions.

The site is loaded Plimsol down at the moment and sometimes is stalled by an oncoming sea of web-bots from unruly search engines.  The current high activity level due to the EA release fiasco is really raising hell with the site performance.

thanks for the redirection Mr. Moose.  I got today's menu from the autobot chef, and was trying to respond when I noticed the site was doing a maintenance.   But since its come back up, my pages are flying!

Considering the quality of that edition, congratulations.  Now you need the update patches to get you to build version 1,1,640.  There are lots of links, so look around.
