In fact, you can force the game to load your user directory (including both plugins and regions) from a different location. Firstly, move your entire \Documents\SimCity 4\ folder to the new desired location on the different drive.

Then go to your SC4 shortcut, right click and open 'Properties', then add the following command at the end of the target box, first adding a single space:

-UserDir:"x:\New User Directory\"

Replace the x with the drive letter, and New User Directory with the location of the new folder.

Sample:

"C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -UserDir:"x:\New User Directory\"

Remember to start the game using this shortcut every time, otherwise it will revert back to the default 'Documents' folder.

Seems like it's working, thank you!

Or if you don't want to use a custom shortcut, and don't want to have to manually change the plugins path of all installers, you can use a directory "junction", where you put the plugins folder (or the entire sc4 My Documents folder) onto another drive, and create a Junction to make it look like it is still in the original location.

    help for mklink command: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753194(v=ws.10).aspx

By doing this, going to the old location in My Documents will actually physically take you to the new location on another drive, but the path doesn't have to be changed in any of your existing applications. It's too late at night for me to give step by step directions.

I have a little problem when I start the game it doesn't load the region I play and doesn't save any settings (sound or video). It loads everything as the default. Every time I start the game I always have to change settings and load the region I play.

The restart data is saved in C:\Documents\SimCity 4\SimCity 4.cfg

If you have relocated this file or part of your structure, you should probably rebuild your structure at one place.
