I know that this may be very simple, but I can't find what I am looking for. I know that two prop packs dats that I am looking for, but can't seem to find them. When I do a search I come up with 90 or a 100 different files that don't seem to be related.

The files that I am looking for are bldgprop_vol1 and bldgprop_vol2.

Can someone tell me of a easy way to search for them? Using the search box at the top of the page doesn't seem to do the trick.

Thanks

These can be found on the Maxis files index page at SC4 Devotion:

They are towards the bottom of the list.

    Thanks for the help!

These can be found on the Maxis files index page at SC4 Devotion:

They are towards the bottom of the list.

How can I find these myself? I don't like to burden others when once I learn I can do it for myself.

In the future, when you want to search a specific website, use Google. To search on Simtropolis, for example, you would type this:

    site:simtropolis.com *search terms*

I tried this method and all I got was a list of webpages on the forums to go to (simtropolis of course). I don't want to look at all the other webpages.

Isn't there a faster search on the STEX that would take one to a particular file if the person already knows what file that he is looking for? The current search box just takes you to a bunch of files when one is all that you are looking for.

    Any ideas............

Well, bldgprop_vol1 and bldgprop_vol2 are both official Maxis files...so you won't find them on the STEX. But aside from those, to be quite honest, when you want to look for a particular download, you pretty much have to know the precise name - or at least part of it - to find it on the STEX. And even then you sometimes have to weed your way through a bunch of irrelevant downloads. Usually, when I know the precise name of a dependency, I just go to Google and type "Simcity 4" followed by the name of the file, and 99% of the time I find it that way as opposed to going through page after page on the STEX.

FWIW - I admire your desire to look for things on your own. I wish more people would do that, because there are so many things which are easy to find if people would simply use their brains and think about how they could possibly find it. Nevertheless, there are times when things simply can't be found - so in that instance, don't let yourself think you are burdening others by asking for their help.

Sorry, do site:simtropolis.com/files to just search the STEX. No, there's no way for it to take you to a particular file. They're always getting renamed and updated anyway. But with this method, what you're looking for is usually in the top few results.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to find the Maxis files:

    1. Go to SC4Devotion.com

    2. Scroll down and click the  bn_easupport.jpg  icon.

    3. Read and accept the agreement (EA's terms of use for their files). This will take you to the 'Maxis Official Updates and Tools' page.

    4. Click the first link (Lot Editor).

    5. Scroll down to find the files download links on the left hand side.

Note: https://www.sc4devotion.com/maxis/ is just the index page of these files.

You could try the Advanced Search here on Simtropolis. To access this, click the dropdown on the search box. It will open a page that provides more specific search options. For example you can search by:

    • Section of the site — to find custom content, select ST/Exchange
    • Author of each file
    • Date uploaded
    • File category — e.g. BAT, lot, map

If you want to search for a specific title, it is a good idea to enclose the search phrase in "quotes", as it suggests. This will only return results that exactly match your search criteria.

Like lhrob says, sometimes there will be things you can't find using normal search methods. However, don't be afraid to ask. There are many people here who will be more than happy to help you out! If you are looking for anything SC4 related, a good thread to use is:

    Hope this helps. *:)
