Water pollution : The down and dirty

On a couple of the small squares I have put farming communities not very decoratively named Farming Unit I and Farming Unit II. I have an interstate highway system running right through the middle of each of them. I have one exit for each town where I have a small Main Street and then a little R area with about a 500 sim population. I put a water tower in the heart of Main Street and water pipes just to the C & R areas. I don't put pipe water to the farms yet the water pollution is still around 600+ so.... What's up with that?

Next question...

I have a fairly large city A that has plenty of water and no pollution. I connected the water pipes to city B which is a DI city, no R and a small C area near the Highway. If I sell water from A to B will the pollution in B affect A or is it like the air pollution in that it just stays in its own city?

Thx in advance for your answers to these questions!!!

Farms tend to affect water pollution whether there are pipes or not. The only way I've seen that can help avoid this problem is by placing many water treatment centers in your most polluted areas.

As far as pollution from one city to the next, I do not believe that pollution will travel past city borders, so pollution from one city won't affect its neighbors.

Yes, water pollution has nothing to do with pipes. Water pollution means that the ground water underneath the area is contaminated, so it would be unwise to build a water tower or pump there. You can always build the water pump away from pollution, and then run the pipes through the pollution, and there wouldn't be any water quality problems.

Farms have a tendency to affect the groundwater below it. Pipes or not, it still affects it since well, groundwater. It would be a much for wiser idea if you either build a water treatment plant near the farms or just place a water tower AWAY from the pollution. Pipes can run through the pollution but hey, no water quality problem( as stated by Indiana Joe ).

Get the SPAM mod, it makes farms pollute in a more realistic manner, and much more.

But, they still pollute the ground water a bit.

If you buy water from a city without water pollution, the water pollution in your farming city should not effect the purchased water.
