Hello guys,

I'm just wondering if you suggest pre-ordering from Origin, and if I should get a downloadable copy or if I should get an hard-copy. I'm still deciding what I should since I don't think my local gamestop will carry Sim City 5 because they don't sell PC games anymore. Thanks for the help.

Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays!

Do people still use disks? I removed the CD-ROM drive from my PC three years ago and was never in need of it since.

Don't cling with the past and just buy yourself a digital copy. Especially if you are not sure you can easily get a hard one.

Uh, yes, most of the people in the world uses CD-ROms.

I prefer to buy a CD, simply because I like collecting games, lol.

I'd either buy it hard-copy while checking carefully whether that does not feature Origin as on disk present & required, or I would wait and see if they do a release via Steam.

That is personal though, I just can't trust the Origin platform (due to established history of the platform, the use of it by EA but also the simple case of EA controlling how long the game remains supported and online - essentially how long you can use it). It's stuff Maxis has no control over.

Kip mentioned in an interview that they are studying possible release options, including standalone and Steam. It's a tad short to deadline of release though, so I don't have high hopes. Personally I'm willing to wait for a non-Origin release. If that doesn't come, I'll just stick with SC4 until such a release shows up in some years.

I would ask your local gamestop to see if you can pre-order SimCity, that way you have a hard copy if that's what you want. It can't hurt to ask them!

I wouldn't hang about for the 'non origin' version, it's not gonna happen. It's tied into the system, like steam games are.

Don't pre-order. It's never a good idea; you pay the highest price to basically be the first to find out whether it's good or not. And if it's not, well, that's a bunch of wasted money.

I'd wait until a while after release, read the player reviews, since the "professional" ones can be influenced. If you do decide to buy it, then wait for a sale. Me, I'd try to find any way other than origin to buy it, since origin is basically EA spyware on your computer. But, since this game is cloud/originware, any way other than through Origin is unlikely.

I like to tell those who are thinking of pre-ordering the upcoming SC2013: if the game turns out to be terrible, you have no right to complain about it. It is always better to wait at least one year before buying the game, so that bugs can be patched out, major complaints can be ameliorated somewhat, and have some more goodies afterwards. Regarding Origin, it is spyware. In many jurisdictions, Internet bandwidth is at a premium and Internet connections can be spotty.

Personally, I would order the physical copy, that way if something happens to your computer(I.e. Virus, hard drive crash, etc), you can easily reinstall it not not have to rebuy and download it from the internet(That's happened to me before).

Personally, I would not recommend preordering the game unless you specifically want certain bonuses. If you want the preorder bonuses, by all means, go ahead. I preordered Anno 2070 the day before release and I really loved those features that were impossible to obtain later on with DLC. After I upgrade my computer, I might purchase Deep Ocean at a discount.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

You don't have to re-buy the digital copy, that's the point of it. You just download and reinstall it whenever you like.

If the internets are limited that might be a huge (and expensive) PITA, though.
