Swamper77 Seaport Support File - issues

I downloaded the Seaport Support File by Swamper 77 and his re-re-release of the PEG CDK seaport, already having the MrTrueSage seaports. Next time I loaded the game and tried to place a PEG seaport, the game crashed to desktop. I thought, maybe I have to have all 4 seaports for it to work properly, and downloaded the other two. They similarly crashed the game to desktop. I believe I installed the files properly and deleted the old PEG seaport files. The actual mod is in a subfolder that should load it after all the files it modifies. What else do I need to try in order to fix this?

Fisherman,

It seems my mod is becoming unstable. Could you please list all of the seaports you are using so I can troubleshoot what is causing the conflict? While working with PEG on his CSK Small Port, we had issues with my Seaport Support file and his port. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a limit to the number of seaports the game will support.....34.gif

I am currently using all 4 seaports supported by the mod (MrTrueSage, Tropod, Thalassicus, PEG)... and, I just realized, the new PEG CSK small seaport (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=13747), though that is supposed to function independently of the original seaport.

    Fisherman,

Try the following and see if it helps at all:

    - Place the seaports you are using in the game's plugins folder and my mod in the MyDocs\Plugins folder

If this doesn't help, I may have to get some professional modders' help on this file.15.gif

The PEG CSK small port seems to be an issue. The mod worked fine for me, until I installed the small port (the version for use with the mod). Upon plopping the port, saving and exiting to the region, the game would crash to the desktop when trying to re-enter the city. Had to choose between the mod (and the additional ports it supports) or PEG's small port. PEG's readme mentioned testing had produced mixed results in using the small port with the mod...

    Pnorrell,

That is exactly the issue we had with it. It even happened to my computer. Fortunately, I only lost a few test cities.

PEG has two versions of the lot, one for my mod and one with a copy of my Seaport Support file. The latter does not support Tropod's additional seaports. I could not get either of them to work on my system without crashes. I beginning to think there is a limit to the number of seaports the game can support....

So, the limit would be what, four? That's the number that your mod is designed to handle, and five is how many crashed my computer last time. Five seems a strange number for a hardwired limit; I'd expect something more along the lines of 4, 8, 16, etc. The numerical limit hypothesis also wouldn't account for the fact that I experienced the crash to desktop with only /two/ of the four (PEG CDK & MrTrueSage, I believe) installed initially, along with the PEG small seaport.

Well, I moved the S77 mod folder from the game's plugins folder to the MyDocs plugins folder and it appears to have fixed the problem, at least for now. But it's still a mystery to me why the bug would have existed in the first place - if files load alphabetically, the S77 mod was still scheduled to load after all the junk it modifies. Unless... unless I'm forgetting to factor in the original simcity.dat game files or something...?

Yeah - luckily the issue was pretty clearly spelled out in the readme and I avoided losing anything but test cities as well. For now, I've gone the PEG only route, with his version of the CDK port and the CSK small port. Be nice to have more options but I've got enough problems with the game crashing already, apart from this issue.

Not sure if it's helpful but I've noticed that you can put a given port file in your plugins folder, plop it in game and then take it out and put a different one in. You can then plop the different port and the one you plopped first will continue to look and function as it should, giving you two (or more) different kinds of ports in the game.

Anyway, thanks to you Swamper77 and everyone else who continue to poke and prod at this game in an effort to make it richer and more enjoyable. 44.gif

    *blows dust off thread*

I have updated my Airport Support File on the STEX. I updated it on 3/12/06. I'm deeply sorry if you lost cities because of my file 15.gif I also had crashes with the previous version of my file while placing some lots that were in the Airport Menu (SFBT construction lots were my crash points). This new version doesn't have that issue. I also tested the various Airport Pack pieces that some of you had crashes with and had no crashes.

The new version is in an installer (Thanks, BarbyW) with an updated description of the files that need to be removed. If you are planning on using the BSC airports (CdS Seaplane Base, Simtropolis Heliport), it is recommended you install the SimWings Airport Pack (SWAP). For unknown reasons, crashes occur if you do not have the files from the SWAP installed. There is no known way around this at this time.

I'm running into a small problem with either the Seaport Support File or the Additional CDK Seaport that you've provided. The problem is: the ships have ZERO crash detection. They cruise through each other, the seaports, and some coastal land.

As for the earlier mentioned (REALLY OLD) thoughts of having a limit. I don't think it's four or five. I've currently seven or eight seaports and it's running fine (well, except for the crash detection)

Although it is kinda funny to see these giant cargo ships steaming full ahead for land. 4.gif

    Robbie,

I can't do anything about the cargo ships passing through the lot or each other. They are controlled by the game's Effects Directory. I wish this particular issue could be fixed, as I have the same thing happening on my end from time to time. Generally, the closer to the city edge your port is, the less this happens. This is what I noticed anyways.

Ah, thanks for that. I've never really paid much attention to my seaports before last night so I never even noticed the lack of crash detection. Great work on these plugins! Thanks for providing things like these for us people with no modding/BATting skill whatsoever.
