The in-game save is CTRL+s. Drop it into the input now and then, and the game will do a garbage collect and give you a checkpoint. I do one when I am building a new city every time I add to my water pipes, and if I have been doing a lot of zoning or building. I can play for hours without any crash.

Bye the way, when you get this flurry of disk activity what is happening is an exception report dump.

How often do you run file system maintenance on your machine?

My game crushes when I want to save it. I can play it as long as I want, but when I want to save it, whether it is ctrl+s or to save it and exit to region, the game crushes...

Perhaps you haven't run disk maintenance programs for a while.  When was the last time you defragged your disks?  What you may be getting is write refusals due to MFT overflow.

Sorry, I didn't answer, somehow I couldn't find the topic and had a lot of work at the office.

I've bought a new dual core computer recently and typed that something=1 stuff at shortcut/properties. I simply did copy/paste of the plugins folder, and regions. It all worked fine, but it started to crush whenever I click on 'save and exit to region'. It also started to bug with traffic ( suddenly all the bridges apear to be for NHW and not for classical NAM ). I installed NAM again but it seemed that it was the one with 'pavement' around the FAR road pieces which is not suitable for rural areas.

Together with the fact that I cannot use SC4 terraformer, which worked on my previous PC ( the same OS, WIN 7 SP1 ), this all started to make me seriously angry. My best game ever, we even hadsome plans to make a new Eastern European mod, where my job was to create terrains, but it seems that I'll simply have to give up on trying to play it.

Since there are registry issues with Windows, you should have reinstalled the game instead of cut/paste the files.  You can do that after the install, but you need to set up your registry.  Also the SC4Terraformer needs a particular .dll file mentioned in the documentation and may also need the Python run-time.  Both free downloads.

'Tain't so simple as what you did.  When moving any app you should always install, and that includes the game and the NAM.

Yes, I know all of this. For sc4 terraformer, I downloaded all the dlls needed and pyo, but no use. For sc4 I'll try to re-install it.

Have you tried using sc4mapper instead?  There was a new edition of it recently.
