My hope for the evolution of SC13

This thought had been percolating for a couple weeks, but it finally just came together after reading a post by OccramSeattle

To me, Maxis's Sim titles have always been about learning (with the exception of Streets of SimCity, which was a pure exercise in mayhem). I remember playing SimSafari, as basic as the game was, it still taught me stuff about the environment and the ecology of Africa. SimCopter taught me my first lessons about prioritizing that I actually cared about learning, since they were taught in a sort of fun way. SimCity was my first experience with budgeting, can't grow a city without making sure you've got the money.

That all being said, what I'd love to see is using the base SimCity game as a platform in which to build other games that can work alongside SimCity. Got a snowcapped mountain in the region? A SimResort user could create a ski resort on the mountain, which then creates demand for housing in a nearby SimCity, creating a demand for more jobs in that city as current shops reach full capacity. If the SimResort becomes popular, they may need a souvenir shop, which would then be stocked by the factories in a different part of the region and then shipped to the resort via a port city at the base of the mountain. Get enough demand for tourists and a SimAirport player could be lured into developing an airport to serve the two cities and the resort. There could be a SimFarm game designed around agriculture, like Farmville but realistic, in that you're feeding into an actual economic engine.

Creating a simulated world like this could actually serve as a valuable tool for researchers in many fields, the first of which are economists. We could take a candidate's tax plan, and with enough variables, determine whether or not a fiscal policy would work as advertised.

SimCity is still being developed, just because something isn't in the game right now, doesn't mean it won't be in the final game.

I do actually love this idea. I don't think they will make completely separate games however, rather expansion packs similar the The Sims series.

Thank you. I should quote a response by Guillame that responded to my questions on the SimCity Forum. I asked since there are restaurants and burger factories, would factories consume and produce different resources or do sims eat sci-fi food that is "made, not grown" from industrial products.

I hope a farming expansion pack similar to a SimFarm 2 using GlassBox on the online SimCity World gets released. I hope we can build HeadQuarters/Semi-Arcologies for SimCity in SimTower 2.

Have a nice day!

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I really like your idea to add farms to fill up the spaces between cities and great works. And Arcologies are actually confirmed to be in the game! :}

This was hinted at for Simcity 4 and was the partial concept of GEMS in Simcity Societies. In fact one of the first GEMs that was planned I believe was a Ski resort GEM.

Definitely something I would buy. Always wanted a train/bus game, a fire-fighter/rescue game, a SimTower plugin, SimZoo, SimAmusementPark, SimHarbor, SimIsland, blah blah blah... that all plugged into the same region. That would be mind bending.

for a long time i remember that maxis refered to there games as "softwere toys" and not games.will wright in the Simcity 2000 Special edition interview stated.... a toy is used to assist early learning for a child.i dont remember the exact quote because i have not played my original copy in years now

BTW i do remember that one of Maxis's goals were to have the ability to create content in Game A and use it in Game B... somewhat like you said above

I am not afraid to push that glowing red button

I survive April 2011 PlayStation Network downed services

I could tell you those nuclear codes, but i would have to kill ya as well

If there's no agriculture, we'll know where Sims go when they die........Simlent Green
