Intro/UI flickers, eventually CTD

So I've just installed Windows 7 on a partition on my Macbook Pro, and now I'm trying to run SC4 off of it. I had files from my old Win Vista computer that I literally just copy/pasted onto my Macbook, (I'm thinking this is the problem) and SC4 has been starting up, but throughout the upstart sequence the displaying graphics flickers.

When I get to region view, the region looks fine, but the UI keeps flickering. I've tried to start up a square, but when I do so the program CTD.

    Just to get things straight:

    • Boot Camp from Mac OS X (Mountain Lion) to Win7
    • SC4 files (from older computer)
    • Flickering UI but normal land view

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

I had the exact same problem when installing it earlier tonight (in a vmware winxp machine), but after changing the screen resolution to match my laptop's screen width of 1600x900 [by adding this to the back of the shortcut for sc4: -CustomResolution:enabled -r1600x900x32] it seems to have stopped. I have not had time to actually enter or build a city so I do not know if the game will crash when I do that yet. Maybe you could try another screen size to see if that affects anything. I hope this helps...

I am not sure just copying files does the trick. There are registry entries that need to come along. You would both be better to re-install the game from the distribution media.

Then if your screen is 16:9 you should also invoke the custom resolution options.

General question: Has anyone tried wine on OS/X?

I had try to copy my Simcity 4 from my old computer to my notebook. Once i copy it, i just play and CTD did happen soon. So, it seem that copy without re-install is fail, you must install the game first, than copy your plugin and other from one of your computer toward another. The reason of CTD usually happen with a copy is because the game is NOT INSTALLED, but only copied from a computer to another. The solution is simple too, just install the game and copy plugins and region that you want toward the target, then the problem is solved.
