Odd Crashes

So I woke up today and started playing with my cities without any problems. Although, a few minutes ago, I wanted to test a new plugin. It was just a ploppable and I wanted to see how it looked in-game. As soon as my city opened up, it crashed. Same happened in a new city tile.

...then again, since you mention the fact that it only occured ever so since you installed a mod.... be sure you have all dependencies and requirements to run, such as game updated and correct expansion packs..

worst case scenario... it is also possible that your city is corrupt however sc4 region veiw woulds show up blank over the city tile.....highly unlikely though

He was referring to the fact that the SC4 exe is not multithreaded ....

If your Mac is OSX so you can see this - http://splurgebook.w...-4-on-osx-lion/

This is the site where Mac support SC4 - http://www.aspyr.com...-deluxe-edition

Anyway if the problem happens only with plugins is more likely plugin error or failure to install paths of the game.

The problem is Nukeu, is that your solution only works on Windows. Mac doesn't have such parameters, and Apple has used multi-core/multi-chip setups for some time, and it is regulated by the OS, so it likely isn't the issue.

oops i did not see that this was a mac topic ....

lol i look silly :P

Do you play the Aspyre version? I get regular crashes whenever I play. :P I've resorted to playing the game like Pokémon Red with a low battery: saving every 5 minutes.

I'm not sure if there are any versions besides the Aspyre one anyways. :P

I have this issue all the time. I believe it has to do with some sort of a "plugin limit" on the SC4 Mac version. I download a lot of stuff on a regular basis but have a habit of waiting weeks to install these new plugins, so when I do an install there are usually between 30 and 40 separate downloads that have to go in. When I add a bunch of these new plugins and run the game, here is what happens:

My entire region disappears into a blank green canvass. The "abyss" goes black and I can't save anything, water features disappear, and oddly the Timbuktu region always loads instead of Vancouver, despite the fact that I repeatedly remove the Timbuktu region files from the SC4 directory (along with every other Maxis city map). So I remove those new plugins, and instead of running the game again I spend some time going through and clearing out years old plugins that I no longer use. I then replace all of those new plugins and like magic my entire City reappears again and everything is working quickly and smoothly, with the new plugins.

I have read that there is no "plugin limit" but I beg to differ. This isn't new plugins causing conflicts as this problem resolves itself as soon as I remove several older plugins and replace them with the new ones that caused the issue before. Very interesting. Any Mac gurus have any ideas on what this is?

By the way unless I am having these plugin issues I NEVER have random crashes. This game runs incredibly smooth on my machine. I'll run it for 4 to 5 days at a time with no issues. Love it!

The only thing I could think of is that maybe in the plugins that you download there are some issues regarding compatibility with other files. Although I have never seen the game turn into an "abyss"

The timbuktu region will probably load because its also stored inside the Simctiy folder in your applications folder.

Sorry, I'm not sure why your game has continued issues with plugins. I recommend installing them in small groups at a time. Test the limits of what you can put in, and when it shows up with this issue take note of what files you most recently put in and try removing them slowly until you see an improvement in the game. Then add in others that weren't in that group to see if the problem is plugin specific.
